  • Morning apartment fire lands man in hospital, police called in

    A man was taken to hospital and police were called in Thursday morning after a north Edmonton apartment fire.
    Crews were called to the blaze near 80 Street and 142 Avenue about 9:20 a.m., said fire rescue spokeswoman Maya Filipovic. Four trucks responded and the blaze was contained and put out by 9:30 a.m.
    Fire rescue pulled a man from the suite, along with burning blankets and mattress.

    Firefighters are working to contain a grass fire that spread to an old barn in northwest Edmonton.
    Fire Rescue Services spokeswoman Kristi Bland said crews were alerted to the fire south of Anthony Henday Drive and west of Mark Messier Trail at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday.
    They arrived about six minutes later and found the grass fire had spread to an unoccupied barn in the area, Bland said.
