• AHS warns of potential measles exposure in several Edmonton locations

    Alberta Health Services issued a health advisory Tuesday after an individual with lab-confirmed measles was in several public locations in Edmonton while infectious.
    According to a news release from the provincial health authority, the infected person visited several places between May 8 – May 12, including Northgate Mall, the Misericordia Hospital, and a liquor store on Stony Plain Road.

  • Man, 40, dies of injuries after May 3 motorcycle crash

    A 40-year-old man who suffered serious injuries after crashing his motorcycle in south Edmonton earlier this month has died in hospital, say police. 
    The man was driving east on Saskatchewan Drive from 116 Street on May 3 when he lost control of the machine, skidding several metres before striking the south curb. 
    He was transported with serious injuries to hospital where he died Friday.

    Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced $39.8 million Tuesday to build a railway underpass and to add lanes to 50 Street, addressing one of the city’s biggest traffic headaches.
    The project includes widening 50 Street to six lanes between 76 and 90 Avenue and building the underpass at the Canadian Pacific Railway crossing north of Sherwood Park Freeway. 
    The province had previously promised $28.3 million, with the city paying the balance on the $87.5 million project.

    A minor collision in southeast Edmonton slowed early morning traffic Tuesday.

    Has anyone at city hall or working for the city considered lowering speed limits to a mandatory 30 km/h around all crosswalk locations, as is now done in playground locations?

    With canons booming in the background, Canada’s Governor General was welcomed to the legislature building Tuesday morning as part of her first official visit to Alberta. 
    Gov. Gen. Julie Payette was sworn in as Canada’s 29th representative of the Queen in October.

  • Wildfire update: Fire crews continue to battle blaze northeast of Edmonton

    Emergency crews are trying to prevent fire spreading in a rural area of northern Strathcona County as more and more fire bans are enacted around the province.
