  • At The Cult of Hockey: The Edmonton Oilers need continuity behind the bench, for the long-term good of the franchise

It is completely understandable that Edmonton Oilers fans should feel frustrated.
Their team is broken. And especially after last season’s flirtation with Lord Stanley after a decade of darkness, that fact really hurts. It was supposed to be better. The old problems were supposed to be fixed by the new regime. Yet, here we are.
But while frustration is o.k. for us, it would be a recipe for disaster for Bob Nicholson.
See, frustration by its very definition is caused by a feeling of inabili

  • Alberta Health scraps plans to create rural hospital model

An Alberta government project to develop a “template” for constructing rural hospitals using the same basic, scalable design has been scrapped, Health Minister Sarah Hoffman said.

    Oilers 1, Blackhawks 4
Edmonton Oilers coach Todd McLellan tried every option at his disposal in an attempt to turn things around for his disappointing club. He dressed all three of his Black Aces from Saturday’s 5-1 loss in Dallas, while sitting a veteran d-man (Andrej Sekera) and two young forwards (Drake Caggiula and Anton Slepyshev). He shuffled all four of his forward lines and all three of his defence pairs. He shifted Leon Draisaitl to right wing, Ryan Strome to centre and used Yoha

CHICAGO — OK, this is bad, even for the Edmonton Oilers.
The post-Christmas collapse is now seven games and counting, and it’s as grim as it’s been around here in a long time.

CHICAGO — Nobody was realistically expecting Yohann Auvitu to be a solution to any of the issues plaguing the goal-starved Edmonton Oilers up front.
But the fact head coach Todd McLellan played the defenceman at forward Sunday in Chicago shows just how bare his cupboard is when it comes to options.
Auvitu played 8:10 over 10 shifts and finished minus-1 with two shots on net. There were no big surprises, good or bad.

  • Oilers' slump continues

CHICAGO — The Edmonton Oilers limped into the second half of the season hoping to somehow stop the bleeding.
But simply opening more wounds and waiting until they run out of blood probably isn’t the best strategy.
Nevertheless, that’s the way it went Sunday in Chicago, where a 4-1 defeat by the Blackhawks came less than 24 hours after a 5-1 loss in Dallas.
They are now 1-5-1 in their last seven and sinking fast.
The stakes were understandably modest when this one began —
