• Edmonton Oilers do sharp business in picking up Brandon Davidson

Edmonton Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli has bolstered his blueline at little cost, picking up Brandon Davidson on waivers from the Montreal Canadiens.
Davidson, 26, 6-feet, 2-inches, 210-pounds, is a smart, gritty and steady defensive d-man, who can also move the puck and has a hard slapper from the point. He’s never been a point producer as a pro, but he was a trustworthy option for Oilers coach Todd McLellan here in Edmonton in 2015-17.
Why do I like the move?
    Davidson is a capable bottom-pa
  • Proposed law offers protection to Alberta pet owners

Davida Marantz got an unwelcome surprise when she got out of hospital in 2014 and went to pick up her beloved Sheltie Libby from friends.
The dog needed $4,800 dollars in dental surgery while the Edmonton senior was gone, an amount she felt obligated to pay back.
“They were so generous in taking her and caring for her and doing a really fine job that there’s no way I would leave the dog with them and the bill with them,” says Marantz, 70.
But when she checked with other clinics
  • Should the Edmonton Oilers go with Nick Ellis or Laurent Brossoit next game?

Take Our PollEdmonton’s weak playoff hopes got a wee bit brighter with its 7-5 win over the Calgary Flames on Saturday night, but they will quickly be extinguished without better goaltending.
Goalie Laurent Broissoit, thrust into the starter spot with Cam Talbot’s injury, had a near historic meltdown in the third period, letting in two iffy goals on “B” grade shots but also two “C” grade shots from the corner, where he had a clear look at the puck and no one
  • Uber-style app aims to get translators where they are needed most

A new app expanding into Edmonton aims to simplify the process of matching certified interpreters with those in need.
Mayagwe is building an online database of local interpreters whom they hope can help organizations like Alberta Health Services (AHS) and the Edmonton Police Service (EPS).
“It’s sort of like the Uber for language interpreters,” said Mayagwe’s director Bill Dodd, a former Calgary Police Services (CPS) officer. “Alberta is becoming more and more

  • Court to hear ex-MLA's 'typographical dispute' with electoral officer

Alberta’s Court of Appeal has agreed to hear a fight between a former MLA and the province’s top elections official that began as a “typographical dispute.”
Joseph Anglin, a former MLA for Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre, is challenging a $250 penalty imposed by the province’s chief electoral officer related to issues with his campaign signs during the 2015 election.
Anglin alleges that during the election, the independent body removed some of his law
  • Cult of Hockey game grades: Edmonton Oilers dominate Calgary over 40, then barely hang on for 7-5 win

    Heart attack, much?
The Edmonton Oilers ran the Calgary Flames’ show for two periods, and even took a 6-1 advantage early in the 3rd Period.  That included taking a 1-0 lead for the 1st time in eight consecutive games. All seemed to be well. But then they only hung on by the skin of their teeth over the last 15, for a 7-5 win. Yep, “Retro-80’s Night”, as the score escalated on both sides, over the course of 60 minutes. Fun but ugly.
The two points are huge, as this

The Alberta Medical Students’ Association has previously used its annual meeting at the legislature to push for investments in mental health, but this time th
