  • Player grades, Games 11-20: Edmonton Oilers spinning their wheels, going nowhere fast in the standings

Another 10 games of Oilers hockey is in the rearview, and it’s not a pretty sight. A general disappointment, even.
When last we checked in after Game 10, the calendar was about to turn over to November and the hope was that Edmonton’s hockey team would turn with it. Alas, that has not proven to be the case. November has seen the Oilers play more games (10) than any other team in the Western Conference (7-9), but languish in the middle of the pack with 9 points, and near the bot

  • Alberta youth advocate recommends LGBTQ-specific training

The first LGBTQ-specific report by Alberta’s child and youth advocate raises a host of concerns including youth afraid to come out, kicked out of their home, homophobic remarks by caregivers, and nowhere to live safely.
At the same time, threads of hope and positive strides in the system weave throughout the report, released Monday.
Despite more acceptance and support for LGBTQ youth in Canada, they are also at a higher risk of homelessness, mental illness, violence and suicide.
  • So many Edmonton Oilers trending down this year, but not Adam Larsson

There’s little good news to report on the Edmonton Oilers, who have just seven wins in 20 games.
Almost every player is trending down, not up.
Oscar Klefbom, Milan Lucic, Cam Talbot and more are off to wretched starts.
Even Connor McDavid’s two-way play has come into question (he’s gone from super human in 2016-17 to merely super good this year).
Almost every move made by Coach Todd McLellan goes sideways. Few of Peter Chiarelli’s most recent deals have worked out.
