• Edmonton civic election: Meet candidates running for the Edmonton Catholic School Board

With 95 schools and approximately 42,000 students, Edmonton Catholic Schools is the fourth-largest school district in Alberta.
The school board trustees elected in seven city wards oversee the district’s $507-million budget and hire and supervise the superintendent of schools — the education system’s version of a chief executive officer. School trustees also write and debate policy, lobby governments, decide which school construction projects are priorities, choose names for sc

One year ago, NHL insider Joe Haggerty of CSNNE.com, a veteran Boston hockey broadcaster, put out his NHL power rankings and had the Edmonton Oilers ranked 29 out of 30 teams.
“This is a ‘show me’ ranking,” Haggerty said at the time. “I’ve expected the Oilers to rise up and become a power in the West before and I’m not going to be fooled again until they actually show it on the ice. Clearly, Connor McD

The terrorism suspect linked to a nighttime rampage on Edmonton’s streets was not well known to members of the Somali community, local leaders said Sunday. And they called for Edmontonians to resist letting the incident inflame prejudice and hatred.

  • 'Lone wolf' terror suspects usually tell others about their plans, expert says

Edmonton has a cluster of radicalized young Muslims that may have been a factor in the alleged terror attack that injured one police officer and four pedestrians, a terrorism expert said Sunday.
While investigators feel the man arrested acted alone, such people are generally part of a larger radical group and often let others know what they’re planning, said Lorne Dawson, project director of the Canadian Network for Research on Terrorism, Security and Society.

So, Jesse Puljujarvi is back in Bakersfield.
That’s where he should be. As one NHL pro scout said recently about the 19-year-old Finnish winger; “He has to go down and dominate in the American League first before he can be a top six forward in Edmonton.”
Truth is, Puljujarvi got beat out by another teenager Kailer Yamamoto for a right-wing spot because he’s more versatile.
