• LIVE: Edmonton police officer 'fortunate to even be alive'

Police are asking for information and politicians are urging calm after Edmonton’s core was thrown into chaos Saturday night in a series of attacks that Chief Rod Knecht said are being investigated as “acts of terrorism.”
The Edmonton Police Service released a disturbing video Sunday of the event that started it all, showing a white Chevy Malibu ramming through a barricade and sending the officer, Const. Mike Chernyk, flying through the air before fighting off his attacker. Lat

This in from the Edmonton Oilers: “The #Oilers have also assigned forward Jesse Puljujärvi to the Bakersfield Condors.”
    My take
I’m good with this move. Better to do it now and get Puljujarvi 20 minutes of ice per game in Bakersfield on the power play, even strength and perhaps short-handed than for him
  • Fitness column: Time to start preparing for winter migration

With trees clinging to fall plumage, some people are already turning their sights to sunny destinations. Not a bad timeline if shedding pounds is part of the preparation.
A 30 pound drop in fat is significant but entirely doable if your sights are set on a February departure. The prospect of looming beachwear may be the best body shaping motivation going.
If you’re an aspiring part-time snowbird looking to trim down for your winter migration, consider these beach f

The Edmonton Oilers have waived Mark Fayne, which comes as no surprise. Fayne has struggled almost since the day he arrived in Edmonton to make a positive impact with the team.
Oilers coach Todd McLellan sent him to the minors in 2015-16 after he struggled in a Top 4 role with Andrej Sekera.

  • Body found 2 metres beneath garage in north Edmonton

The death of a man whose body was discovered buried in a pit about two metres below the concrete floor of a north Edmonton garage is being treated as suspicious, police say.
Investigators excavated a garage on a residential property near 96 Street and 118 Avenue and discovered the body of an unidentified man on Friday.
“Typically we expect to find cars and lawnmowers and tools in the garage. Not the deceased remains of a human being,” Edmonton police spokesman Scott Patti

  • Edmonton Oilers say goodbye to September hockey with tepid performance in Van City

    Oilers 2, Canucks 3
Not quite sure what to read into Edmonton Oilers’ preseason finale in Vancouver Saturday night that left a few questions hanging over the local club. The Oilers carried the play for the most part but were unable to capitalize, and made just enough soft plays at the other end of the ice to drop a 3-2 decision in regulation.
Fans of the team concerned about the ability of the young defencemen to step up in Andrej Sekera’s absence won’t rest easy. Major mistake
  • Oilers lose final tune-up game to Canucks

VANCOUVER – Any feeling there might actually be some malice between Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks in their final exhibition dress rehearsal because they’ll see other next Saturday here in the second game of the regular season, was a nice thought, but that’s all.
It was pretty much a ho-hummer in the 3-2 Canucks win as both teams tried to get through the game in one piece. There were precious few guys diving to block shots or drilling anybody from behind into the boards
  • Terry Jones: Eskimos fall to Bombers, lose sixth straight

Who knows where this is going to go from here?
But with the Edmonton Eskimos losing a sixth straight game Saturday evening after a 7-0 start to the season, there are several historical points of reference.
To be ridiculously optimistic at this point, will the Eskimos, who play next week in Montreal, be like the 2006 Alouettes?
Montreal started that season 7-0. Then the Als lost six straight. Then they rebounded to get to the Grey Cup.
But then there were the 2001 Alouettes that started 9-2 and l

It’s been a matter of debate over the years as to which quarterback would have led the Edmonton Eskimos into the 2013 Canadian Football League season had Matt Nichols remained healthy throughout a training camp competition with Mike Reilly.
Would Reilly, who had just arrived via trade with the B.C. Lions ahead of free agency, still have won the reins he ended up getting handed after Nichols was lost for the year with a knee injury suffered in a pre-season game?
