  • Terry Jones: Successful sports night in Edmonton with Eskimos and UFC

It was a night when a combined count of 50,544 fans produced a live gate of just under $4 million.
And when it was complete, there was enough controversy to contend with to last until the next UFC numbered pay per view event in Rogers Place or the next Calgary Stampeders-Edmonton Eskimos Labour Day Rematch.
Let’s just hope they won’t end up scheduled against each other at the same time again.
    Let’s start there.
“UFC 215 cost us 4,000 to 5,000 fans between the live event a
  • The competitive battlefield at Edmonton Oilers Training Camp: 9 Things

Edmonton Oilers main camp is just around the corner. Rosters are all but complete. We have a healthy amount of information and intelligence on all of these players, as well as the organization’s view of them. Projecting how Todd McLellan will deploy his troops, as a result, becomes way less of a guessing game, now. We can see lines drawn in the sand, and battlegrounds forming as the sun begins to rise on the 2017-18 Oilers training camp.
So, then, here are my projected battles, to be fough

A tree to be removed on the University of Alberta campus has received a fair bit of attention because of its historical significance and its 143 year lifespan — about three times the normal expectancy.
The tree, known as Garneau’s Tree, is a Manitoba maple planted in the 1870s by early Edmonton settlers Laurent and Eleanor Garneau behind their home.
Laurent Garneau was one of Louis Riel’s soldiers during the Red River Rebellion and was a prominent figure in the Alberta M&
  • The key to Edmonton Oilers winning this year? "An even keel" Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli stresses

Chiarelli on the playoffs: “It’s just about keeping an even keel.”
In retrospect, and if we’re completely honest about how the Edmonton Oilers lost in the playoffs, the team looked like it was running on flat tires for much of Game 7 against the Anaheim Ducks, leading to a 2-1 Ducks victory.
The Oilers had their chances to win that game. It was certainly no Ducks blow-out. But after taking an early 1-0 lead in the first, Anaheim took over the game. Anaheim outchanced Edmo
  • Edmonton Oilers Young Stars start, finish strong in 3-0 win versus Jets rookies

The Edmonton Oilers rookies continue to dominate the Young Stars tournament format, with yet another victory Saturday night in Penticton, 3-0 over Winnipeg.
The Oilers came out fast and physical in the early going, before riding  the stellar play of goaltender Stuart Skinner through a firm Jets push-back that began half-way through the opening frame, until the mid-point of the 2nd. But the Oilers rookies left little doubt over the last 30 minutes who was the better team on the night, includ
