• Terry Jones: Mike Reilly could be on the way to CFL MVP award

Only once in Edmonton sports history have the MVPs of both the NHL and CFL both perspired in public in this city at the same time.
    The year was 1983.
    Wayne Gretzky and Warren Moon.
It could happen again this year.
Oilers captain Connor McDavid has already won the Hart Trophy. Eskimos leader Mike Reilly, arguably with a defining game to follow his selection as player of the month for July, may have become the early leader for the CFL Award as Most Outstanding Player.
It was Friday, after the Calg
  • Five things we learned: Eskimos 33, Ticats 28

Another win. Another batch of injuries. That’s been the case for the Edmonton Eskimos all season long as they improved to 6-0 for the first time since 1961 with a 33-28 win over the visiting Hamilton Tiger-Cats. In a game that went down to the absolute final play with no time left on the clock, you wouldn’t know one team was undefeated and the other is still searching for their first win of the season. At the same time, it should come as no surprise given nine out of the last 10 time
  • What is the pass mark for Edmonton Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli in 2017-18?

If there was one thing Oilers fans and observers learned in the Decade of Darkness, it’s that accountability is crucial at all levels of the organization if the team is going to win.
That means that a GM who takes a mediocre team and turns it into a terrible one should not be allowed to then try to orchestrate a major rebuild.
In today’s context, it means a GM who has a generational superstar should be expected to steadily improve his team until it’s firmly establish

  • A wet, wild and Willie weekend in music out at BVJ's 25th

When you look back 25 years to Big Valley Jamboree’s first lineup, the names were astounding. Emmylou Harris, Clint Black, Wynonna Judd, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, the Oak Ridge Boys, the Good Brothers — Tanya Tucker, of course — even a generation ago those were big names, and of course they’re legendary now, and in a very country way.
That said, what the Oak Ridge Boys mean to the average 20-year-old playing beer pong in the southern campground of what’s still un

  • Rescue group wants spay, neuter fees cut as shelters overrun with cats

A Spruce Grove animal charity concerned with the increasing number of unwanted and stray cats in the province is calling on Alberta’s veterinarians to help curb the population by lowering spay and neuter fees.
“Spaying and neutering is the answer (to overpopulation) and according to people it’s too expensive,” said Brenda Martin, president of The Pet Food Bank of Parkland County. “We hear every day owners can’t afford vet bills.”

    It was worth the wait.
    All 38 holes of it.
Kentucky’s Patrick Newcomb knew he was in for a long day, having to play the final 16 holes of his third round and all of his fourth Sunday at the Syncrude Oil Country Championship.
But he had no problem with a little overtime on top of it, not when a birdie on the fourth extra hole at Windermere Golf and Country Club clinched the victory.
“I thought I missed it high,” said Newcomb, who edged Germany’s Max Rottluff in the thrilli
