Sixty-five-year-old Ian Biggar, from New Galloway in southwest Scotland, this last weekend left his motorbike in Toronto to fly to Edmonton for the Clansmen’s Rugby Club’s 50th reunion.
“I was a stalwart of The Clan’s fourth team from about 1975,” he said. “I was a good enough player, but I became the club’s unofficial photographer and spent most of my time taking photos from the sidelines.

  • Echo & the Bunnymen slam through energetic set at Union Hall

You sometimes have to wonder why one group becomes wildly successful while another turns into a cult band.
Like U2 and Echo & the Bunnymen, for example. Both were on the same path as critical and popular darlings in their early years, yet one broke loose as a commercial phenomenon while the other stayed just under the radar. It’s a mystery as to why this may be, but whatever arguments you might make in  favour of Bono and friends there’s no denying that the Bunnymen have rel

In two weeks, my husband, our three boys and I are jumping on a plane and going as far East as you can go in this great country: Newfoundland. After that, it’s Ontario to visit my family for a week before returning home. All told, we’ll board and deplane four flights.
Parents often ask me if I’ve flown with Indy yet. I have, and so has Jesse. Flying with a baby really isn’t a big deal. But when moms and dads ask that question, they do so with serious faces and wide eyes.

One can conceal it with baggy clothing, stash it in an out-of-reach place, or even ditch the box altogether and slip the ring in a pocket.
But Lyndon Hodgins, an Edmonton-based entrepreneur, has a more stylish solution: the Monarch Box.The anodized aluminum box, which weighs less than a gram and is lined with bridal satin, opens and closes fluidly. Because it is much slimmer than a traditional two-

Funny phrases on Leefield Community League’s roadside sign have been raising eyebrows in Mill Woods this summer.

It’s that time of year again for what is now our seventh annual Cult of Hockey rankings of Edmonton Oilers prospects. This year we identified 38 players somewhere in the organizational pipeline who meet our single criterion — are they eligible for the Calder Trophy? Too old, or too many games played, and you’re out. Thus the likes of Jesse Puljujarvi (28 NHL games played as an 18-year-old) and Jujhar Khaira (25 total games playe

  • No parole for man who had murder charge tossed over trial delay

An early beneficiary of court-mandated limits on trial delays won’t be getting out of prison on other charges anytime soon.

One way you can tell you’ve seen something special out here at Big Valley Jamboree is the one-of-a-kind factor. Big-crowd musicians often say they love whatever town they’re playing in more than the last one, throw on a sports jersey and all that numb junk — but when Tanya Tucker spotted a male fan dancing on his chair in a pink tutu, this became one of the weekend’s capital-M Moments, a showstopper.

The Eddies of old are back.
It took the entire Spring Season and two games of the Fall Season for FC Edmonton to finally look like the squad that came within a game of the North American Soccer League final last year.
