Konar the latest in a string of injuries to Eskimos linebackers
Another week. Another win. Another injured starter.
The cycle continues for the Edmonton Eskimos, who improved to 3-0 with a 23-21 win over the Ottawa RedBlacks on Friday.
But not before Adam Konar had to be carried off the field with a leg injury in the final minute.
The WIL linebacker is already the second Canadian starter slated at the position this year, having replaced veteran Cory Greenwood after an ACL injury ended his season just two days into training camp.
Add middle linebacker J.C. Sh -
Former RedBlacks come up big to lift Eskimos over defending champs
It might have come down to a two-point conversion in the final seconds of Friday’s game, but it’s the two points in the standings the Edmonton Eskimos walked away with in a 23-21 win over the Ottawa RedBlacks that mattered most.
While the Eskimos improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2014, the defending Grey Cup champions are still looking for their first win of the season after falling to 0-3-1.

Looking into the future of Jasper Avenue with a festival
Edmonton residents can experience the new vision for Jasper Avenue in virtual reality at the launch festival Saturday.
With the planters and sidewalk extensions all in this week, city planners now face the challenging task of explaining what it all means.
They’re doing that with festivals, on-street signs and perhaps more street painting, said officials setting up the festival site Saturday morning.

Wine column: Developing a nose for aromatics
Sommeliers swirl and sniff to analyze wine. So what are sommeliers looking for when they dip their noses into the glass?
Firstly, they aim to identify intensity — light, medium or pronounced. Then, they search their minds for descriptors; generally, the more aromas given off by a wine, the better the quality.
Try your luck at tasting blind, and have fun comparing wines from different climates, regions, and winemakers. Some grapes are so distinct they are easily recognizable from one -
Saturday's letters: Catholic board trustees need good judgment
Re. “Catholic superintendent remains top earner,” July 11
While reasonable people may differ on the merits of any executive compensation package and its relationship to an incumbent’s achievements, there is no question the decision regarding the recruitment of the next superintendent of Edmonton Catholic Schools (ECS) is best left to the incoming board of trustees.
Recruiting a superintendent is one of the most important jobs of any board of trustees, requiring sound judgment, -
Bob Dylan: iconic performer inspires covers and controversy
There’s very little in this world that we can all agree on except for Bob Dylan, right?
Just kidding! The subject of Dylan can rip families apart, have lovers at each others throats, turn friends into enemies. From the very beginning of his career the Minnesota-born, Nobel prize winning singer-songwriter has evoked loathing as well as praise, usually for his ever-changing, always surprising voice. Sometimes he sings an entire song as though he’s attempting to suppress a sneeze ( -

Dan Barnes: Eskimos survive late scare to remain only unbeaten CFL team
You can’t win the Grey Cup until November. But you certainly can take yourselves out of the conversation a lot earlier than that.
The Eskimos beat themselves early and often in 2016 and in so doing, made their regular-season schedule a grind and their post-season journey far more difficult than it need be, what with that two-game detour to the east. In the end, and it came so ingloriously in a raging blizzard on Ottawa ground in the Eastern Final, it was too difficult. The Eskimos made the -
50-50 jackpot smashes CFL record at Edmonton Eskimos game
The 50-50 jackpot at the Edmonton Eskimos game Friday night shattered the previous Canadian Football League record, climbing to more than $436,000.
The demand for tickets at the game was so high, the team stated the winner would not be announced until after the game on social media and on esks.com. The announcement drew boos from the crowd — which also set an attendance record for the CFL so far this year at 36,260.
The draw started at $82,000, with a carry-over in unclaimed prizes fr -
Eskimos don't miss facing quarterback Henry Burris
Henry Burris may be gone but not forgotten.
But he certainly wasn’t missed Friday night at Commonwealth Stadium.
At least, not by an Edmonton Eskimos club that saw enough of the opposing quarterback in their longstanding rivalry with the Calgary Stampeders. And they certainly didn’t need to see him carry that Battle-of-Alberta feeling over to the East Division during his time with the Ottawa RedBlacks.
In the end, Burris had the last laugh. Before retiring in the off-season at age 41 -
Oliver Community League to demolish old community hall, build new one
The Oliver Community League plans to demolish its rotting community hall at 10326 118 St. and build a replacement, but it could take years to accomplish.

In a preliminary structural report on the building’s condition -
