Edmonton's new ambassadors run pilot project, patrol downtown streets
Have you seen Edmonton’s ambassadors?
They wear bright blue polo shirts and walk the downtown streets every day, chatting with anyone they come across.
No, they’re not trying to sell you anything. They’re part of a new city-funded pilot project aimed at promoting the city, strengthening community in the core and connecting people with businesses and social services.
Similar programs exist in Winnipeg, Saskatoon and in Vancouver, where ambassadors interact with thousands of peop -
Top 7 reasons why Connor McDavid's contract is a discount for Edmonton Oilers
It’s perhaps odd to think of an athlete signing a $100 million contract and that deal being a bargain or a discount, but that’s what Connor McDavid’s new eight-year, $100 million dollar deal amounts to for the Edmonton Oilers.
Here are the top 7 reasons why:
Having McDavid locked in for the next nine years, Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli can now recruit other players by selling them the certainty they will be on a team with McDavid. That should be an extremely attractive option for -
Harper looks to the future in beyond category sound
If there’s a trait that separates good musicians from real artists, it might be that the latter are always looking forward to their next project, never content to rest on past success, even if that striving brings an occasional failed experiment. It’s also one of the few descriptions that fits California singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ben Harper, now 47.
It was probably inevitable that Harper would make a career in music, growing up in southern California around his mate -

Saturday's letters: Great article about 1967 immigration rule changes
Re. “On Point; Fifty years ago, Canada changed its immigration rules and in doing so changed the face of this country,” July 1
The Journal did a wonderful job in summarizing the complex immigration rules which permitted different ethnic groups to enter Canada over the years.
During my working days in the County of Smoky Lake (1968-1994), I learned a lot about the history of immigration of the Ukrainian ethnic groups to Canada. The article has now made me knowledgeable about the immig -
