Connor McDavid harming Oilers chances of winning with massive new contract, critics say
NHL insider: “The McDavid team needs to think one more time before coming to terms.”
This in from various writers, the notion that the Edmonton Oilers certainly and Connor McDavid possibly would be better off if McDavid took a lesser cap hit than the reported $13.25 million per year for eight years he’s reportedly signing for.
Let’s start with long-time NHL writer Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun:  “Connor McDavid will sign a contract soon that will

Edmonton Police Service ask for $1M upgrade to gun range training facilities
Police can’t keep up with new firearms training requirements if they are stuck with old facilities.
That’s the plea to be made before the Edmonton community and public services committee on July 6, following updated federal and provincial standards.
The Alberta Association of Chiefs of Police will require all police members to receive annual firearms training.
For city police, that means the number of patrol members trained annually will grow to 1,800 from 600.

Goals still hard to come by for FC Edmonton
FC Edmonton may never score another goal again.
At least that’s the way it seems as the local North American Soccer League club dropped their fourth consecutive 1-0 contest, this time falling on the road to the Jacksonville Armada on Saturday.
And once again, it wasn’t due to lack of scoring opportunities.
Edmonton created enough chances to win the game handily, but the ball is not bouncing their way.
“The players I didn’t think deserved to get beat here tonight, they gav

Oilers stay out of the free agent frenzy
After rocking Edmonton and the free agent market last summer with the blockbuster signing of Milan Lucic, Peter Chiarelli delivered a much quieter Canada Day this year.
The Oilers general manager distanced himself from the frenzy Saturday, keeping the chequebook in his holster and his sights set on a pair of more important targets much closer to home.

Cult of Hockey: The Nine Greatest Canadian Edmonton Oilers Eh!-ver
For years (for decades, really) the NHL ranks had been dominated by Canadian-born players.
It was only since the mid-70’s that Europeans, and even Americans, started making real inroads, first in the WHA, and then increasingly in the NHL.  Over the course of time, our Edmonton franchise has been blessed to have some of the very best Canadian-born stars ever, in Oilers silks.  But who were the very best Canadians, to ever don Oilers gear?

Oilers prospects pack up for Jasper development camp
When the latest batch of Edmonton Oilers prospects get together in Jasper on Sunday it will be more like summer camp than training camp.
And that’s how the organization wants it.
Yes, there will be intense workouts and practice sessions under the watchful eyes of Oilers’ management, even the odd scrimmage game thrown in, but the four-day excursion is anything but a fight for jobs.
