Paula Simons: PCs should take no pride in 'reply all' distraction
Last Friday afternoon was a hectic day for PC party staffers at the legislature.
Some of them, it seems, were frustrated by the way the Notley government has been handling the paperwork around the all-party child intervention committee — doing big document dumps a few days before each meeting, leaving opposition staffers scrambling to go over all the material.
Others were also deeply worried about the upcoming Pride Festival in Edmonton. Jason Kenney, the new leader, had declin

A contracted City of Edmonton automated enforcement supervisor has been arrested after a man posing as a peace officer pulled a female driver over before she was forcibly confined and sexually assaulted last week, say police.
The 50-year-old man — employed by the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires — is believed to have been wearing his photo radar uniform when the 25-year-old victim pulled over for a vehicle with flashing lights near Anthony Henday Drive and 127 Street around 1:3

Brandon Zylstra picked up right where he left off last year, earning 103 yards on three catches Sunday.
The Edmonton Eskimos receiver’s pre-season performance in a loss to the visiting Calgary Stampeders keeps him on par with the 100-yard average he maintained in each of his five regular-season outings since coming off the practice squad at the end of the 2016 season.

Zach Kline’s first in-game experience in the CFL was as brief as it is memorable.
The mid-camp addition, who arrived in the fourth and last spot on the Edmonton Eskimos quarterback depth chart in place of the ousted Brett Smith, only came in for one snap in Sunday’s 36-35 pre-season loss to the visiting Calgary Stampeders.

You don’t get lucky and win the Stanley Cup.
And, unlike the NBA, three or four players can’t carry a team to a title.
So as much as Sidney Crosby is soaking up most of the credit for Pittsburgh’s second straight championship, rightfully solidifying his place among the all-time greats with another Conn Smythe trophy, the Penguins march was one of the most inspiring team efforts in recent NHL history.

With Pittsburgh Penguins’ Stanley Cup win last night, the NHL’s centennial season is in the books and with it more than a little hype and hoopla to mark the occasion. A few days late and more than a few dollars short, but I can’t let last week’s announcement of the 1984-85 Edmonton Oilers being voted the “No. 1 Greatest NHL  Team” of the league’s first one hundred years pass without comment.
