  • Truck clips transport near Bruce Mines

    A pickup truck flipped after clipping a transport during an attempted passing on Highway 17, near Bruce Mines, on Wednesday morning.The westbound truck hit the front of the tractor-trailer and went out of control, coming to rest on its roof in the northbound ditch. The driver, a 67-year-old resident of La Patrie, Que., was taken to Sault Area Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The motorist was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act.

    A man spat on a security guard in the 700 block of Wellington Street East early Tuesday, police say. He’s also accused of trying to spit on, and bite, security guards in the 700 block of Great Northern Road that evening.Darryl Newton, 55, was charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, two counts assault and 16 counts fail to comply with probation order.He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

  • Jail guard pushed down stairs at Sault remand centre

    A correctional officer fell down several stairs when pushed by a man at Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre on Monday. The officer was not hurt, police say. Calvin Harper, 25, was charged with assault. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
