  • Thessalon emergency department faces another 24-hour closure

    North Shore Health Network’s Thessalon site will, again, face a disruption in its emergency department.
      It is slated to be closed from 8 a.m. Wednesday to 8 a.m. Thursday, this after being shuttered for 24 hours starting Monday morning. The service, east of Sault Ste. Marie was also closed New Year’s Eve and Boxing Day.

  • Two punched in business altercation

    City police have charged a 31-year-old male in connection with an altercation at a Queen Street West business.  Police say the investigation revealed a man had punched two people multiple times, causing serious injuries to one and minor injuries to the other.  The accused and victims do not know each other.  Joshua Nights, 31, faces charges of aggravated assault and assault.He was to appear in bail court.     
  • Woman charged with obstructing peace officer, identity fraud

    City police have charged a 33-year-old woman with obstructing a peace officer and identity fraud.  A press release states that on Jan. 4, officers arrested an accused on outstanding warrants of failing to attend court and failing to comply with a release court.  While in custody, a further investigation revealed the suspect fraudulently used someone else’s identity when they were issued a provincial offence notice in 2025.  Reyanna Senecal, 33, faces charges of obstruct peac
  • Arson charges laid after fire started in vehicle

    A woman who started a fire in a vehicle to stay warm has been charged with arson.  Police say on Jan. 1 patrol officers saw a snow-covered, parked vehicle with its door adjar and a fire inside in the 200 block of Wellington Street West.
