  A man allegedly threatened someone he knew with a broom and metal pole downtown. The incident happened in the area of Albert Street East and Gore Street on Sept. 3, police say. Darryl Colynuck, 61, was charged with assault with a weapon and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm. His court date is Nov. 23.

• Elliot Lake man dies in ATV crash

  An Elliot Lake man died in an all-terrain vehicle collision north of that community last Sunday.The crash onn a gravel road near Camp 8 Creek Road and Highway 546 was reported at about 2:30 p.m., Ontario Provincial Police say.The male, 62, was pronounced dead at the scene. No name was released. A post-mortem will be done in Sault Ste. Marie. An investigation continues.

• Intoxicated driver refuses ride from police in Garden River

  A heavily intoxicated driver paid the price for turning down a ride from police last summer. Robert Lesage asked an Ontario Provincial Police officer to leave Highway 17 in Garden River First Nation on Aug. 4, 2025. His speech was slurred.   A firearm was allegedly pointed during a dispute between neighbours north of Sault Ste. Marie.Ontario Provincial Police went to Jody Lane in Aweres Township last Saturday morning, a release said.Blaine Cuthbertson, 65, of Aweres Township, was charged with pointing a firearm, careless use of a firearm, possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm and mischief.
