  The driver of a side-by-side wasn’t supposed to be behind the wheel, Ontario Provincial Police say.He was stopped at a RIDE check at Village Road and Walkhouse Bay Road in Serpent River First Nation last Saturday.Peter Squiers, 34, of Serpent River, was charged with operation while prohibited.   Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board’s elimination of more than 20 support positions will boost workloads of remaining staff and leave schools “with even fewer supports,” a union leader argues.Most of the positions, 16.5, are educational assistants. Their loss, the union says, will be “devastating” for students. • Downtown Sault intersection closes to traffic Monday

  The intersection at Queen and East streets closes to traffic for about eight weeks on Monday. The closure is prompted by the reconstruction of East Street, a release says.Queen Street East, between Pilgrim and East streets, will temporarily operate as a two-way roadway. Traffic barrels will create a turnaound area near East Street for small vehicles. Queen Street East will also temporarily operate as a two-way street between Brock and East streets. • Barbershoppers need tenors for new season

  Finding tenors is tough for Northland Barbershop Chorus. The long-time Sault Ste. Marie group recently lost two of its six members who can deliver the highest harmony part.
