  • Sault security officer injured in business altercation

    City police have charged a 43-year-old man in connection with an altercation at a Queen Street business that resulted in a serious injury to a security officer.  Police say 911 operators received reports of an altercation in the 600 block of Queen Street at about 1 a.m. At that time, the accused was identified.

  • Two arrested, stolen property recovered from multiple B&E’s

    Ontario Provincial Police say they’ve arrested two people in connection with a number of break and enters in the Peshu Lake area.  Stolen property has also been recovered.Police say on Dec. 27, proactive patrols located an encampment with a large amount of stolen property in a bush area near Highway 556 and Highway 129.  With assistance from the North East Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Canine Unit,  two  People were arrested.&n

  • Fire services responds to carbon monoxide alarm

    A multi-residential home in the 600 block of Wellington Street East was evacuated after carbon monoxide was found in multiple units on Jan. 3.
      Fire services said residents were evacuated, and EMS and Enbridge Gas were called to the scene.  The cause of the carbon monoxide was determined to be from snow blocking the exterior vents of the building.
      One resident was taken to hospital for precautionary reasons. There were no other injuries reported.

    The emergency department at North Shore Health Network’s Thessalon site will be closed for 24 hours starting Monday morning.The closure, effective until Tuesday at 8 a.m., is due to physician shortages, a release says.
