  Three years after filing for bankruptcy protection, Sault Ste. Marie’s steelmaker has emerged with a new lease on life.
  “The cloud has lifted,” said Algoma Steel Inc. president and CEO Kalyan Ghosh.
  Late Friday, the company announced that the purchase agreement for the steelmaker has been completed and the business, now to be called Algoma Steel Inc., emerges from CCAA as a stronger, more sustainable Canadian steel company.

  Sault Ste. Marie’s newly elected council will officially be sworn in at a ceremony Monday.
  The swearing in ceremony will take place on Monday at the Civic Centre, beginning at 4:30 p.m.  The public is invited to attend.
  Mayor Christian Provenzano has been re-elected and he will be making an inaugural speech at the event.
  The new city council is a smaller council, based on five wards instead of six. Two councillors represent each ward.

Marie paramedics will collect food to help Soup Kitchen Community Centre on Saturday.The seventh annual Helping the Hungry runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Joe’s No Frills on Korah Road and Food Basics on Trunk Road, a release says.The drive has collected more than 13,000 pounds of food, and $22,000 in cash, since Helping the Hungry launched in 2012.
