  • Chamber bows out of debates; Sault Star ready to ramp up coverage

    The Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce is bowing out of hosting municipal election debates this fall.
    With its CEO and acting board president both seeking a position around the next municipal council table, the Chamber of Commerce has withdrawn from participating in the long-standing debates.
    Instead, Algoma University will be the lead organization to run those debates, said Megan Kent, communication officer at Algoma U.
    Kent said plans are only beginning now and have yet to be finalized.

    An early-morning fire at an east-end home sent a man to Sault Area Hospital on Friday.A resident at a home in the 100 block of East Champagne Drive called 911 at about 5 a.m., said deputy chief Paul Milosevich of Sault Ste.
