Preview: Greystone Theatre's Machinal a dark look at societal norms
When Ruth Snyder was tried and convicted for the murder of her husband in the late 1920s, journalist and playwright Sophie Treadwell was struck by how Snyder was treated by the media and society as a whole.
Those observations led Treadwell to writing the expressionist play Machinal that examines the life and circumstances of a woman constrained by society which resulted in her committing murder and being executed. The play is the last in the season for the University of Saskatchewan’s Grey -
Edgewater Developments' Brooklyn floor plan proves popular
Edgewater Developments was started when Dax Zoorkan and his wife Jessie built their own home a few years ago. They were quickly hooked. They decided to develop a portfolio of rental houses. With more than 11 years in the construction industry, Zoorkan understood what homes were available on the market and what he could do that was unique or different.
As a small builder, Zoorkan prides himself on attention to detail and hands-on approach throughout the building process. Jessie has input on comin -

Collisions increased after speed cameras installed on Circle Drive
Collisions increased on Saskatoon’s Circle Drive after the introduction of speed cameras four years ago; both crashes and injuries spiked along one stretch.
Data from SGI shows collisions on Circle Drive exceeded the previous five-year average in each of the first three years since a speed camera pilot project introduced camera locations at five spots.
From Taylor Street to the Gordie Howe Bridge, where there are three camera locations and the speed limit is 90 kilometres per hour, the num -
New Faces New Places: Woodworker uses creativity to create one-of-a-kind pieces
Michael Wiebe spent a decade working a day job as a cabinet maker before deciding to strike out on his own, opening Beaver Creek Customs to focus on creating custom furniture and cabinets.
“The first thing I ever built as a woodworking project was a Christmas gift for my mom … it was fun to mess around and build something different,” he says. “Basically, I just started doing so much of this on the side that I figured it was time to take the leap and I’ve been wanti -
Kohlman: Maple Pecan Coffee Cake
March is that in-between month when there is still snow on the ground (but it’s melting!) and when you step outside you can smell the faintest bit of spring waiting in the wings. It’s a glorious smell, that. For many of us, this has been a long, almost ever-long winter, and by golly, I shall be a happy camper splashing through puddles in my rubber boots, kicking away the last bits of the winter that was.
March is also the month that the liquid gold known as maple syrup flows freely i -

'Treasures of musical stories': 80-year-old concerto gets new life in SSO concert
Johannes Dyring has been trying to get somebody — anybody — to play the violin concerto written by his grandfather Heinz Moehn in 1938. It took moving to Saskatoon for that dream to reach the stage.
“I tried in Germany, I tried in Sweden. Many orchestras are not interested in playing unknown works,” Dyring said. “It’s such an amazing coincidence … this all falls into place here in Saskatoon.”

Cuthand: We must stand against white supremacy
The recent terrorist attack in New Zealand is another example of the growing terrorism movement based on white supremacy. It’s getting worse and steps must be taken to confront it.
The fact that U.S. President Donald Trump refuses to call it out and even mention it speaks volumes for the movement’s growth and acceptance worldwide. The U.S. has ceased to be a moral global leader, if in fact it ever was one.
So how does one define white supremacy?
White supremacy is the belief that whi -
Editorial: We stand with the Broncos families
A single verdict simply cannot adequately respond to the devastation caused when Jaskirat Singh Sidhu ran a stop sign on a country road and collided with the Humboldt Broncos team bus in the early evening hours of April 6, 2018.
Months from now, some will still be arguing about this decision: eight-year concurrent sentences on each of the dangerous driving causing death charges, and five-year sentences to run concurrently on the dangerous driving causing bodily harm charges.

Aye, aye captain: Wouters scores OT winner as Saskatoon Blades topple visiting Moose Jaw Warriors
There is playoff hunger.
And then there is near starvation.
The Saskatoon Blades — and their fans — had plenty of time to work up an appetite for Friday’s playoff tilt.

"Just a step we had to go through": Broncos families reflect after Sidhu's sentence
MELFORT — Jaskirat Singh Sidhu went to jail Friday, 350 days after he poked his head through an opening in his upturned semi and got swallowed in chaos.
Judge Inez Cardinal, while sentencing Sidhu to eight years in prison, was unsparing in her assessment of blame: He was “solely responsible.” Guilty of “prolonged inattention.” His failure to stop was “baffling, and incomprehensible.”
