When Saskatoon novelist, essayist, and poet David Carpenter finished the monumental task of editing the first two Literary Histories of Saskatchewan he declared he was done. His job of herding cats — of getting a multitude of different writers to commit to, and deliver, their essays on Sask writing — was over. Finis.
But the editorship of the projected third and final volume fell apart and Coteau Books came back to Carpenter with a plea for help, and an assistant editor, Kelly-Anne R

Renee Kohlman: Grilled bacon and brie sandwich
January is a month to draw comfort from whatever sources we can. The holiday buzz burned off long ago, our jeans are too tight, and credit card companies want their money.
In other words, January kinda sucks. We’re a cold and a little bit grumpy. All we want is to stay inside and eat potato chips while watching Netflix, but celebrities go on talk shows and urge us to eat “clean.” As if we don’t have enough things to worry about (personal debt, too-tight jeans, global warm -

Reducing carbon footprint can be easier
I wish to commend Murray Mandryk on his column about the carbon tax fight (SP, Jan. 4). While I’m not a proponent of this tax nor how it’s been thrust upon the government of Saskatchewan, I am concerned there’s no productive debate on the issue. The two governments have approached this issue as either you’re with us or against us and that is very unfortunate.
I do view the carbon tax as a slow death-hold on the middle clas -

Barber twin sisters keep running back to Saskatoon for K of C Games
Jade and Kaila Barber may be twin sisters, but a pecking order appears to be in place.
Jade, you see, is 20 minutes older than Kaila; every so often, she gently reminds her of that.

It just so happens that Jade was handed the No. 1 competitor bib. Kaila got No. 2.

Hockey Huskies win on Fight Cancer Night in honour of the late Cody Smuk
It was win No. 20 and, just as importantly, a win on Fight Cancer Night for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.
