Review: A tentative start and a stylish finish for The Thin Man
The murder mystery at the heart of The Thin Man is complex, scandalous, entertaining and ends up feeling like a cold case by the time anyone gets around to actually investigating.
The story centres around couple Nick and Nora Charles, who discover while vacationing in New York that one of Nick’s old friends was recently killed. Nick, a former detective, ends up on the case with the help of his wife.
But if you were judging the play by the first act, you wouldn’t be wrong in wondering -

Renee Kohlman: Curried Butternut Squash Soup
It’s the season of everything butternut squash. From ravioli to risotto, fries to frittatas, pastries to pizza, people seem to love cooking with this tasty vegetable — me included.
Butternut squash has the prettiest colour of all the vegetables, don’t you think? That soft orangey/peachy glow gets me every time I cut one open.
I love the creamy texture of the squash, and how it all at once tastes of everything autumn. Sometimes slicing open a butternut squash can be a tad daunti -
