Bobby Cameron has been re-elected to a second term as chief of the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN) in a landslide victory over his lone challenger, Thunderchild First Nation Chief Delbert Wapass.
Cameron, a former teacher from Witchekan Lake First Nation, received 727, or 76.6 per cent, of the vote. Wapass, also a former teacher, received 216 votes, or 22.8 per cent, of the 949 ballots cast in the election held Wednesday and Thursday in Saskatoon.

Saskatoon SPCA animal protection officers investigated more than 700 complaints in 2017
The Saskatoon SPCA’s animal protection officers were busy in 2017, investigating 774 cases and seizing 157 animals.
Executive director Patricia Cameron says the organization’s officers — two full-time and one part-time — were busy even before the provincial proclaimed its new Animal Protection Act in September, but their response time to complaints is good. Officers executed nine search warrants and one case was referred to the Crown for prosecution.

'Men Who Paint' bring home German artwork for a Saskatoon show
A group of local artists is bringing home a collection of paintings they made in Germany for a show in Saskatoon and beyond.
The “Men Who Paint” took a trip abroad to Schwaan, Germany, after being invited by an art museum to try their hands at painting the local landscapes in their plein air style. Judge tosses evidence in light of 'unreasonable' decision to handcuff suspect
A Saskatoon man has been acquitted of refusing to provide a breath sample after a judge ruled that his fundamental rights were violated when police officers handcuffed him before he was arrested or charged with a crime.

Koshinsky earns Canada West star honours
After helping the University of Saskatchewan women’s volleyball team get off to a 2-0 season start on the weekend, Emily Koshinsky was named the Canada West female third star of the week.
In the opening five-game match victory against the Brandon University Bobcats on Friday, the third-year outside hitter recorded 22 kills, 16 digs and two aces.
She followed that up with 19 kills, seven digs and two aces in the Huskies’ 3-0 win on Saturday.

Kormish: Club soccer nationals got their kicks in Saskatoon
Two years ago, Canada Soccer chose Saskatoon to host the 2018 Toyota men’s and women’s soccer club championships. The event is now in the history books.
It went off without a hitch. The snow stayed away; the city had the grass fields of Umea Park in pristine condition and the organizers of the event had all angles covered. It was nothing but rave reviews from fans who travelled here, the players, and the provincial reps. Canada Soccer Association gave Saskatoon a thumbs up.
