Letter of the Day: Turning toward regenerative agriculture
I was thrilled to hear that Premier Moe turned toward farmer Megz Reynolds’ invitation to take a seat in her harvest combine. Research shows that turning toward is the best response when seeking a positive outcome.
I wonder if Premier Moe or Reynolds are aware of the “4 per 1000” initiative? This initiative was launched by the French government at the COP21 Paris climate summit in 2015 and many countries signed on. It offers a positive climate change outcome.

Gardening: Hints for harvesting and storing fall cucurbits
Fall is a bittersweet season for gardeners. On one hand, harvesting is a glorious reward for months of steady work and patience. On the other hand, the end of the growing season means no more fresh produce a few feet from your doorstep.
Luckily, some late vegetables can be enjoyed weeks or months after harvest if they are harvested and stored properly.

Food: Broccoli, cheddar and chicken chowder to warm you up
There’s something comforting about wrapping your hands around a steaming bowl of soup. It nourishes the belly, and on some days, the soul too.
Alas, not all soups are created equal. On a recent dining-out excursion I ordered a bowl of seafood chowder because I had a craving for something warm and satisfying — like a hearty chowder. But this gloop was nothing like the chowder of my dreams. It was thin, milky, and heavy on cubed potatoes and not much in the way of seafood save for some -
Bridges cover: Time stops in the archives for Jeff O'Brien
Jeff O’Brien carefully opens a Village of Saskatoon record book from the year 1903, the pages browned with age and filled with a severe cursive.
The City of Saskatoon archivist handles the book delicately in the city archives’ main storage area, which he calls a space within a space. For security reasons, it’s a place members of the public rarely get to enter, except on a tour. If something goes missing, it’s gone and there’s no replacing it, he says.

Editorial: Always be prepared in case disaster strikes
When it comes to extreme weather, the people of Saskatchewan can get a little smug.
We watch the fallout of hurricanes, tsunamis, tornadoes and earthquakes, and offer up little expressions of thanks that we live in such a relatively safe place.
This complacency is misguided.
Besides carrying emergency weather kits in our cars in case we get stuck in a blizzard — and how many of us still even do that? — it is a rare household that has taken steps to prep for a true disaster.
