There will be no charges laid against the RCMP member who shot and killed Brydon Bryce Whitsone in October 2017, Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Justice says.
Whitstone, 22, from Onion Lake Cree Nation, died after being shot on Oct. 21, 2017. RCMP have said they pursued a vehicle after reports of a man being chased and shot at in North Battleford. The chase ended shortly after the suspect rammed a cruiser. RCMP said previously that an officer fired on the vehicle “in response to

Hammer-wielding man arrested after downtown parking station damaged
A 24-year-old Saskatoon man is facing charges after a FlexParking station downtown was damaged by a hammer.
Police on Tuesday morning saw a man with a hammer in the 200 block of 21st Street East, damaging a City of Saskatoon parking station. According to police in a news release, the man saw the officers and charged at them, causing them to draw their conducted energy weapons — commonly known as Tasers.

This is in response to “RCMP shouldn’t get veterans plates” by Dean Rochon (SP, Aug 25).
Mr. Rochon makes it sound like a soft and safe job compared to the military. He said that “they get to wear bulletproof vests in their own country, they make good money, they go to work and come home when their work is done.”
I disagree. Police officers and their families know that the officer may not return at the end of the day. Even a routine traffic stop can end in tragedy. -

Council delays final vote on embattled Willowgrove development
A majority on city council leaned towards an unpopular proposal to rezone a plot of land once slated to be a house of worship to accommodate a 70-unit townhouse development in Willowgrove, but a third and final reading will wait until the next council meeting.
