Review: Sum's Seraphina is thoughtful and touching
Sum Theatre’s new play Queen Seraphina and the Land of Vertebraat is intended to advocate for people living with disability.
While not a perfect piece of theatre, the show on Thursday afternoon brought more than enough pizzazz to enthrall a young audience — and get their point across beautifully.
The play, written by local playwright Adam Pottle, told the story of the mythical land of Vertebraat where everyone is welcomed and celebrated. The titular, wheelchair-riding Queen Seraphina -

Review: A merry amusement keeps summer light at Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan
It says something about progress when Shakespeare is altered to include a same-sex romance and it’s hardly even noteworthy.
In The Merry Wives of Windsor, Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan director Greg Ochitwa turns Master Fenton, one of the suitors of Miss Page (Jacqueline Bloc), into Mistress Fenton. Played beautifully by Elizabeth Nepjuk, we see real love here even without the playwright’s words — making the efforts and motives of the other two would-be husbands pale by compa -

Fuller: An old home movie takes me by (sniff) surprise
Fullerian researchers made a major discovery last week: I wasn’t adopted after all.
Claiming I was adopted was just one of the ways my brothers and sisters tormented me through childhood. I was the youngest and, let’s face it, most special. They didn’t like that. They got me back with “You’re adopted, you know.”
Adopted! I felt the tragic weight of it. No real family of my own. My whole life, all 60 to 72 months of it, spent living a lie. I demanded proof. The -
Cuthand: Too many Indigenous people in Saskatchewan prisons
There is a crisis in Saskatchewan and it’s flying below the radar. The Indigenous prison population is growing at an alarming rate.
In 2006-07, 70 per cent of male youth admissions to custody in Saskatchewan were Indigenous, but by 2016-17 it was 92 per cent. That’s the highest rate of all the provinces. Saskatchewan has a First Nations and Metis population of around 15 per cent of the total population but our numbers in the province’s jails far outnumber that.
