There are really only two things that you need to know about the show: it sold out two weeks before the show debuted, and the show on Friday’s preview night was more than worthy of that kind of popularity.
Let’s start with Annie herself. The roles of the children were double cast, with Dale McMaster and Sydney Bar

Review: Ben Rogers captivates crowd at the Jazz Festival
After a bit of a slow start, Saturday night came alive at The Capitol as Ben Rogers took the stage at the SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival.
For a show that was already starting late, waiting more than an extra half hour for the opening act to come on stage felt like a long time. However, for those coming straight from the main stage, most arrived in time to catch Kirby Criddle’s first song.
Although Criddle had a strong voice and talented backup instrumentalists, the sad tone of her musi -

Review: The curious case of Michael Kaeshammer
Mischievous Michael had some fun on the weekend.
Michael Kaeshammer played band leader-slash-puppet master at the Broadway Theatre in his much-anticipated return on Saturday night at the SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival.
It was clear from the start that the Van-Island piano whiz was in a playful mood. In particular, he loves to toss his stage friends in the water and see if they’ll sink or swim. It happened early when bass player Devon Henderson admitted he hadn’t been to New Orlea -

Whisky vs. bourbon: Canadian distillers wary of a cross-border tariff showdown
Ottawa's new 10 per cent tariff on American whiskey could force bourbon aficionados to shell out more for a drink, prompting some to switch to a domestic blend, but Canadian distillers fear the politically motivated move could paint a reciprocal target on their industry. -

'The festival is run by volunteers': Hundreds of helpers behind the scenes make the Jazz Festival possible
For every Sasktel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival main stage headliner and free stage local performer, there’s a volunteer backstage making sure everything goes as smoothly as possible.
Volunteer coordinator Della Beal began helping out with the festival 27 years ago, long before it was a big enough event to warrant the number of volunteers — about 470 — who are involved in 2018. Until just a few years ago, Beal was the only coordinator.

New Faces New Places: Serving Saskatchewan on a plate
Taking inspiration from their home province, Beth Rogers and Thayne Robstad have turned their love of food into a love affair for the tastebuds.
It was a huge undertaking when the couple bought the Crazy Cactus’ old location just off Ruth Street and decided to open Hearth, a restaurant in which they hope to capture the spirit of the Canadian prairies and place their own mark on Saskatoon’s local food scene.

Collection of poems
I was at a house concert the other day listening to a man extol the virtues of poetry. He was turning for examples of the art to clouds, sunshine, and flowers, putting the cause of modern poetry back about 100 years. But what about culverts? Surely a few comprehensible words could be said abou -
City and Colour proves why he is a fan favourite at jazz fest
Dallas Green is only playing two live shows this year, and one of them was at the Sasktel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival on Saturday.
“This is my favourite festival in Canada,” he said from the stage after kicking off his acoustic show. “Don’t tell anybody that.”
Green’s affection for Saskatoon is incontrovertibly reciprocated.
Green calls his solo act City and Colour because his first name is a city and his last name is, well, a colour. On Saturday night, th -
