REVIEW: Comedic and classy Pride and Prejudice a romantic's dream
The Bennets raise chickens on their country estate, which inspires a chicken-and-egg question about acting.
Are some actors born for a part or can they — or the director — make it seem so?
In other words, what came first, the talent or the effort? You have to wonder as you watch Heather Morrison and Aaron Hursh play Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy in Persephone Theatre’s Pride and Prejudice. It’s a perfect pairing, both actors at the top of their game and somehow uniquely -

Ultraviolet extends far beyond marketers' on-trend colour selection
Each year, there is one designated colour that encompasses everything from paints to fashion and even gardens. This year, the hot colour of choice is ultraviolet.
Now as my family and friends can attest to, I’m not much of a trendsetter — nor a trend follower, for that matter — but I’ve always loved ultraviolet-coloured plants. Ultraviolet plants look terrific all on their own or matched with yellow flowers, a favourite of mine.
But being the kind of guy who loves plant s -
Romanow: For my farewell column, a toast to you, dear readers
This is somewhere around my 650th column here. And it is my last. I’m off to Greece in a couple of days to enjoy retirement.
I have been travelling enough this year that writing the column has become something of a burden if I intend to make my deadlines and not drive my editor nuts. (That IS a temptation, but I’m a better man than that.)
I have to tell you, faithful readers, that writing for you has been both interesting and an education in itself -

'Today seemed like the day to stop': The Humboldt Broncos crash site, four weeks later
It’s a restless corner.
Cars drive past, passenger necks craned. Kids peek out the window as a school bus makes its daily pass. People stop, exit, wander through paths carved out beside piled hockey sticks, flowers, brightly-spinning pinwheels.
A big Manitoulin Transport semi rolls up to this place at the Saskatchewan junction of Highways 35 and 335. Darwin McLeod steps out, and walks quietly. He looks and thinks about the Humboldt Broncos and those lost lives — about the bus crash t -

The Fight for 15 in Saskatchewan
The Fight for 15 — a workers’ movement with the goal of achieving a $15 minimum wage — is gaining momentum here in Saskatchewan.
At $10.96/hour, Saskatchewan has the lowest minimum wage in Canada. Some might argue that attracts business. To that I say shame.
Why? Firstly, not only do we have the lowest minimum wage in Canada, we also have the second highest unemployment rate in Canada. Evidently, a low minimum wage does not help job growth. Seco -

If you don’t use certain muscles, they lose their strength. The boredom muscle is one of them.
We don’t use boredom anymore. We avoid it as if it’s been eradicated, like smallpox or the career of Robin Thicke.
