Because of Gracia to make its Saskatoon debut in April
Many in Saskatoon and area have followed Tom Simes and the making of his inspirational film, Because of Gracia. Since its launch last fall, it has garnered a fistful of awards and generated plenty of buzz.
Gracia has travelled a lengthy road since it began as a stage play that Simes wrote in 2001 and produced at Castle Theatre.
“I retooled it into a screen play, really liked how it played out, and decided to shoot the movie myself to see if it would work,” Simes says.

Forget Hawaii, fish-friendly whites are closer to home
I was in Hawaii a couple of weeks ago, and needless to say I ate a lot of fish.
Unfortunately, the wine lists are aimed at American consumers who never drink anything but Californian. Worse still, the only white they seem to want to order is Chardonnay. The prices ranged from affordable to quite expensive, but the flavour palate was ridiculously uniform. This kind of varietal parochialism is a shame, especially when linked to style homogene -
Explaining garden seed labels: A primer on hybrids and GMOs
Choosing seed for our gardens is usually pretty simple and straightforward.
Typically, each seed package has a beautiful photograph or drawing of the kind of plant that we hope to see eventually see in our gardens, if we do everything right and Mother Nature co-operates.
Plus, both the common and varietal names of the seed are always well displayed so that we can easily identify — and hopefully remember from one year to the next — which plants performed well in our gardens.

Fuller: Do people really hate us and if so, why?
A week ago, the province’s news media were literally locked out of a murder sentencing in La Loche.
Just to be clear, this was not 1985 Romania.
Eventually, with proceedings well underway, one reporter was let in. Before that, the only source of information was a video feed to a courtroom in Meadow Lake that was empty but for a local radio DJ.
It was, as the formal Latin legal description goes, a gong show.
