Gardening: Sprouting seeds in your kitchen
In Prairie winter households, local, fresh produce can be in short supply. This doesn’t have to be the reality.
Local greenhouses continue to expand their growing seasons and the supply of fresh produce increases each year. With a few seeds and some water, fresh, nutrient-rich sprouts can be grown in your own kitchen, year round.
Sprouts are tiny growing plants, germinated from seeds. The sprouting process triggers multiplication of proteins, transforms carbohydrates into simple suga -

Letter of the Day: Policy on cutting trees
As a homeowner in Nutana, I am very glad to hear that city council is thinking about putting restrictions on cutting trees on private land.
One of the attractions of an older neighbourhood like Nutana is that we have so many trees. Although many of those trees are owned and maintained by the city, a large number are on people’s property.
We have had new neighbours come into the area and chop down beautiful, decades-old trees simply because they did not want them. Yet this damages the neigh -
