Albertans rescue abandoned dogs found on rural property in west Saskatchewan
Seven dogs that were found abandoned on a rural property in western Saskatchewan are recovering at animal facilities in the Calgary area.
The Northwest Canadian Greyhound League says volunteers drove to the property last weekend to rescue the dogs.

A neighbour who noticed the dogs gave them food and water until help arrived.
It took rescuers a few hours to gather them all together as some were distraught.

MPs to vote on homelessness strategy private member's bill next month
Saskatoon MP Sheri Benson said she is “very hopeful” that a private member’s bill she has sponsored that would require the federal government to form a special committee to address homelessness will pass next month.
If that happens, Bill M-147 would require members of Parliament from all parties to be appointed to a committee that would speak with experts and people who have experienced homelessness in order to create a plan to end and prevent homelessness in Canada.

Rechargeable scooters appreciated
I tip my genuine “made in Saskatchewan” green Saskatchewan Roughriders ball cap to the six stores on the west side of Saskatoon that have rechargeable scooters for those with mobility problems to use. It makes shopping easier and faster and there exists a possibility of scooters drag racing in any of these stores if two scooters are in the same aisle. Ready, set, go! They are heading for the finish line.
I hope other stores throughout Saskatoon get t -
Cuthand: Court challenge to omnibus bills could bring better recognition of treaty rights
The Harper government was famous for its omnibus bills. These undemocratic pieces of legislation were often more than 400 pages long and amended numerous unrelated pieces of legislation. These monstrosities were pushed through Parliament despite opposition complaints.
In March 2012 the government introduced a budget omnibus bill C-45 that amended 64 acts or regulations including the Indian Act, the Navigation Protection Act (former Navigable Waters Protection Act) and the Environmental Assessmen -

NLL: Late collapse sees Saskatchewan Rush fall 16-15 to Buffalo Bandits in sudden-death OT
The Saskatchewan Rush squad was humming along nicely, storming out to a 6-0 lead at almost a goal-a-minute pace early in the opening quarter Friday.
By half-time, the Rush led 9-3 and appeared to be in complete control of its National Lacrosse League game against the Buffalo Bandits before an approving crowd of 14,693 at SaskTel Centre.
And then the wheels came off.
The Rush offence slowed down to a mere trickle. The defence became overly porous, prone to numerous turnovers.

Late collapse leads to Rush home loss in overtime
They went from blowout, to nail-biter, to bitter disappointment in the span of a quarter and a half.
The Saskatchewan Rush collapsed down the stretch Friday night, and lost a 16-15 overtime decision to the visiting Buffalo Bandits. That late-game implosion — which saw Saskatchewan blow a 12-5 third-quarter lead — halted the Rush win streak at four, and dropped their record to 4-1.

Wine World: A new Anciano aimed at Apothic enthusiasts
A couple of years ago, the SLGA put a wine on the shelves called Anciano 10, a Tempranillo from I think the Seville area. Tempranillo — especially older, finer Tempranillo — is a real treat, even when it isn’t from Rioja. Local winos jumped on the bottles like starving coyotes who find a gopher. The wine sold out the initial order in about three weeks.
It’s a serious wine, balanced, with integrated tannins (as you’d expect after ten years) and quite a treat to drink -
Gardening: Winning vegetables to try out this summer
W. Ray Hastings, founder of All-America Selections (AAS; http://www.all-americaselections.org), had an idea in 1932.
He proposed a system of trial gardens across North America where breeders would supply seeds of their latest flower and vegetable varieties. Skilled, impartial judges would assess the plants.
The first winners were announced in 1933 and, for the first time, home gardeners, farm seed and florist magazine editors had a reliable source of information about the best new varieties. Tod -
Food: Waffles provide a venue for sneaky parsnips
I love most fruits and vegetables. The list of those I won’t eat is a very short one (rutabaga, I’m looking at you) and for the longest time, parsnips were on that list. I think it had something to do with their texture, or perhaps how I just wanted them to be carrots. I’ve since wised up to their elegant, herbal sweetness and now find myself roasting them whenever I get the chance.
Parsnips are also fantastic in baked goods – yes, just like their cousin the carrot &ndash -
