Fuller: The peril of reporting in the Age of Outrage
I admit that half the entertainment value in reading the news online is found in the comments after a story.
There’s a perverse pleasure in seeing people lose their minds, particularly over things that don’t matter. For instance, the New York Times ran a recipe for Texas chili awhile back. One reader was outraged there were beans in it. This devolved into how the Yankees don’t understand the South, and suddenly they were back to fighting the Civil War. Over chili.

BRIT and Sporting Christmas: Two long-running efforts come together
Once each year, one of Canada’s most storied basketball tournaments bounces into Saskatoon for a few wild days.
The Bedford Road Invitational Tournament — or BRIT, as we all call it — celebrates its 50th anniversary when it runs Jan. 11-13, and as part of the run-up, they’re providing a boost to Sporting Christmas.
BRIT’s been around since 1968 and Sporting Christmas since 1976, so it just makes sense to bring those long-running Saskatoon institutions together.

Book review: Robertson's Decoys examines humanity reflected in the natural world
William Robertson’s fifth book of poetry, Decoys (Thistledown Press, paperback, $17.95) is a visceral, robust journey into the field, the forest, the lakeside cabin, the urban backyard. As the title and cover image suggest, these poems illuminate the enticements of the natural world as well as the manner in which things are sometimes not what they initially seem.
Noteworthy poet and literary critic Samuel Taylor Coleridge said that poetry involves “the best words in the best order,&r -
