Some of the regulations governing wood-burning backyard fire pits in other Canadian cities, as outlined in a City of Saskatoon report:
Regina: Allowed between noon and 1 a.m.
Winnipeg: Fire pits must be located three metres from any building, tree, fence or overhead wires.
Calgary: Allowed between 10 a.m. and midnight during the week and 10 a.m. and 1 a.m. on weekends.
Edmonton: Fire pits must be located three metres from a building, property line or flammable material.

Nipawin man pleads guilty to manslaughter in 2017 death of Frank Letendre
A Nipawin man originally charged with the second-degree murder in the death of 57-year-old Frank Letendre has pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.
Danny Brain Crate, 33, entered the plea on Monday in Nipawin provincial court, the Crown confirmed.
“I’m kind of relieved that he entered the guilty plea but I wish it would have been taken care of a lot sooner,” the victim’s son, Chuck, said following the court appearance.

REGINA — A report from the Canadian Crop Hail Association says a reduction in potentially damaging storm activity on much of the Prairies this past summer led to one of the lightest hail-claim seasons in eight years.

Husky Energy approves two new $350-million heavy oil facilities
A year after committing $1 billion to build three new steam-assisted heavy oil extraction plants in the Lloydminster area, Husky Energy’s board of directors has approved two more plants in Saskatchewan with a combined cost of about $700 million.
The Calgary-based energy company plans to build the facilities — which are part of its strategy of shifting toward “low sustaining capital operations” — near Westhazel, which is west of Mervin and Edam.
