Residents of the small northeastern community of Tyrrell Lake are the latest to head south as fires in the area threaten homes and infrastructure.
While a mandatory evacuation order has not been issued, Steve Roberts, the province’s executive director of wildfire management, said four permanent residents and other people who have recreational cabins in the area were advised Monday afternoon that it was in their best interests to leave.

Nearly a year after the position was vacated, Saskatoon’s Roman Catholic Diocese has a new bishop.
Pope Francis announced Tuesday that Mark Hagemoen will be the eighth bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon. A date for his installation has not been set.

An 18-year-old man is dead after a single-vehicle rollover on a grid road near Burstall.
Leader RCMP, along with Burstall fire and emergency medical crews, responded Thursday around 7 p.m. to the rollover of a semi unit carrying diesel fuel on the Mendham grid road, RCMP said in a news release.

A new bishop has been named to lead Saskatoon’s Roman Catholic Diocese nearly one year after the position was vacated.
Pope Francis announced Tuesday that Mark Hagemoen will be the eighth bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon. A date for his installation has not been set.
Hagemoen is currently the bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mackenzie-Fort Smith, a region that includes northern Saskatchewan, the Northwest Territories and part of Nunavut.

A pedestrian has been killed after being hit by a vehicle Monday night near Christopher Lake, according to a news release.
Prince Albert RCMP were called to the scene of a serious collision Monday night at approximately 8:20 p.m. on Highway Two North near Christopher Lake. A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle travelling northbound.
The pedestrian, a 55-year-old man from Black Lake, was pronounced dead at the scene. RCMP will not be releasing the name of the deceased.
