Saskatchewan to survey public on recreational reefer rollout
Saskatchewan’s provincial government is asking residents for feedback on how it should distribute recreational marijuana.
The consultations, which will happen in the form of an online, anonymous survey, were announced the same day the Ontario government rolled out its plan to have a new branch of the Liquor Control Board of Ontario handle its sale of recreational marijuana.
The survey will address age limits on cannabis sales, public consumption, cannabis taxation and a suite of other -
New Faces New Places: Northland Agronomy offering producers an edge when it comes to crop production
Saskatchewan is still very much an agriculturally-based province.
That’s why Paul Tastad and the group at Northland Agronomy have had so much to do this summer.
Northland Agronomy is a business born out of necessity in many ways, as producers are often seeking an edge when it comes to their crop production and Northland is able to provide independent advice, crop consulting and soil sampling. Tastad says Northlands can provide a keen eye for farmers in the never-ending pursuit of better yi -

CCMA Legends Show fields bumper crop of talent
There was no better blending of location and occasion than Friday night’s CCMA Legends Concert.
Talented musicians from Newfoundland to British Columbia came together for a decidedly Saskie-flavoured event.
It started with our own Hunter Brothers from Shaunavon singing the Johner Brothers’s nostalgic gem My Brother and Me. Midway through the song, Paul Brandt sauntered in to help out. His mic didn’t work at first, and Ty Hunter’s was too quiet, but they sorted that out.

Cuthand: The signs of climate change are all around us
This weekend we are witnessing Hurricane Irma continue its path of destruction through the Caribbean and Florida. Hurricane Irma has been called the largest known hurricane to develop in the Atlantic Ocean, largely because the surface water of the ocean is warmer than usual.
Climate change and the warming of the planet from CO2 emissions have been blamed for the melting of the mountain glaciers, the polar ice caps and changing weather patterns causing droughts in some places and floods in others -

The Bridge City Pitch: How Tourism Saskatoon wins big events
TORONTO — At incentiveworks, Canada’s largest trade show for meetings and events, acronyms abound and business cards are like currency.
It’s a circus from the moment delegates get off the escalator at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. A ringmaster beckons people to gather around for an acrobat show. He also offers cookies; by the second day of the August trade show, delegates and exhibitors could use a little sugar.
There are freebies galore at the trade show. Cities from Mo -
Fuller: If you know It like I know It, you can't wait to see It
It has finally opened. It, the movie.
You know It. It’s a story about a clown in a sewer who lures kids to their deaths. A clown in a sewer? Who could imagine such a thing? Stephen King could, and did. He wrote the 1986 novel It about it.
I remember loving the story, so I pulled my original hardcover off the shelf. I’ve been bulldozing through it for the past month. I won’t allow myself to see It, the movie, until I re-read It, the book.
It’s no small accomplishment getti -
Chenin Blanc pairs wonderfully with seafood
A grape that gets little respect and deserves better is Chenin Blanc.
Historians seduced by romance consider it one of the oldest plantings in France, dating back to about 800 in the Loire. Enologically, nothing is certain before 1100, but it is an old grape, a sibling of Sauvignon Blanc (and therefore the aunt of Cabernet Sauvignon.) What makes it interesting is not history but versatility.
You can vinify the grape in pretty much any style you like, from ultra sweet&nbs -

StarPhoenix reporter gets to be a firefighter for a day
It was still early in the morning and I’d only climbed three flights of stairs, but I was already sweating and breathing hard.
I run a lot and like to think of myself as a fit person, but years of running long(ish) and fast(ish) in a straight line have done little to prepare me for hauling a taut and unco-operative hose while weighed down with a firefighter’s gear and air tank.

Why governments miscalculate your risk of flooding

Huskies a convincing 2-0, with tough road swing on tap
The University of Saskatchewan Huskies are a perfect 2-0, but lest they get complacent, we throw out this reminder:
Last season, they also started 2-0. Then they lost three games in a row. These things don’t come easy, as Saskatchewan’s learned repeatedly through the years, and head coach Scott Flory bristled Friday night at any notion that his team might rest on whatever laurels they’ve accumulated through two games.
“That won’t happen. I won’t let it happen, -
