The incident happened as night fell when a 23-year-old man ran across Clarence mid-block between 8th and 9th Streets. He was rushed to hospital in critical condition.
Investigators did not believe speed or alcohol were factors on the driver’s part, Staff Sgt. Grant Obst said.
One block of Clarence Avenue was closed to traffic for more than five hours while collision analysts investigated the scene.

New Faces New Places for Sept. 2, 2017
When family members pass away, the grieving and mourning processes are some time too tough to handle.
The same can be said for he passing of a family pet. People can grieve just as much for a pet as they can a family member who passes away.
The Olson family knows that pain all too well and that’s why they have established Passing Paws in Saskatoon, an eco-friendly way to say goodbye to your pet.
“The people of Saskatoon have an unconditional love for their pets,” says Lisa Olso -

Terry McBride: Long-term care costs
Life expectancy continues to increase. The big question is: how many years can a person be expected to live in good health? Statistics Canada’s estimate of health-adjusted life expectancy at birth is 69 years for men and 71 for women.
That means the average Canadian can expect to live roughly 10.5 years with some chronic condition or disability for which he or she may need assistance.
How would you pay for long-term care?
Buy insurance
One option is to buy long-term care insurance. -

Fuller: Whatcha gonna do — It's Crimes of the Month
From the files of city police, here’s a sample of August’s most (and least) notable crimes.
Occurrence Number 17-77124: Locked and Loaded on Lorne
Crimes of the Month is of the opinion that bad people are driving around town every day and we don’t even know it. For instance, who would look twice at a car with three people in it on the 1500 block of Lorne Avenue at 1 p.m. on a Tuesday afternoon? Well, the cops did, because they suspected the car was stolen. They no doubt grew ev -

Vrooooom: Maserati-Alfa Romeo dealership opens
The arrival of two iconic Italian sports cars in Saskatchewan shows there is confidence a market exists here, says the man behind the plan.
Vaughn Wyant, president of the Wyant Group, says he heard both Maserati and Alfa Romeo were building vehicles more attuned to the North American market and knew they would sell well here.

Sweet revenge: It takes some doing, but you can still find Merlot
Labour Day marks the point where a lot of people return to red wine. When the nights require a fleece to enjoy, and the moon acquires an orange tint, it’s time for a glass of red. Why not use this autumnal shift for some reflection? What wine did you like a decade back? Have you had it recently? Merlot became a standing joke amongst wine drinkers 10 years ago because it was paving the way for the sweet wines people are consuming by the tankerl -
Renee Kohlman: Celebrate the season with corn fritters
I don’t know how it happened, but we’ve landed in September and another summer is sliding out the door.
I can see that it’s packing up to hit the road, with the chilly mornings and a few, yet notable yellow leaves falling to the ground. There was one tucked under my windshield wiper the other day and I swear a little tear almost fell from my eye.
Alas, these late summer days are not to be wasted, and neither is the good stuff that comes with them — like glorious, glorious -

Hits and Myths: Forcing fall bulbs
I think ‘fall bulbs’ is a rather confusing term for many gardeners. It seems to imply that fall bulbs bloom in fall when, in fact, they are just planted in fall so that they will bloom the following spring.
But, from a bulb’s perspective at least, they really don’t care about the names we humans give to our seasons. Their goal is to bloom when the weather is good so that they can flower, produce seeds, and populate the planet. If you provide them with a growing environmen -
Elim Church celebrates its 100th anniversary
On Sept. 16 and 17, Elim Church will launch a four-weekend celebration of the congregation’s 100th anniversary.
