Award-winning author Yann Martel isn’t interested in gleaning publicity for his acts of charity. “The point is to help … not bring attention to me,” he says. “We learn by seeing what others do.”

The Life Henri
Grace-Westminster
4 stars out of 5
On paper, The Life Henri is little more than an art history lecture. In reality, The Life Henri is an incredibly entertaining, inventive and hilarious art history lecture. If only all art professors had that much energy.
With little more than a laptop and projector, Adam Bailey tells the story of French painter Henri Rousseau, capably weaving in stories of his own upbringing and scenes from Stephen King’s Carrie. It doesn’t sound like -

Heather Persson, editor – Fifteen Dogs by Andre Alexis

Saskatchewan: Land of living skies and a racial divide

The Hudson floor plan by Montana Homes perfect for families
Montana’s Hudson floor plan has been a popular choice for homebuyers since it was introduced. The Kensington show home at 502 Childers Crescent showcases this layout with 1,838 square feet of family-friendly space in a modern two-storey home.
Kal Hourd with Montana Homes says several features make the home popular with visitors.
First, is the ample entrance to welcome guests, complete with tiled floor. A closet, a two-piece bathroom, and laundry room are just off the entrance, providing st -
Price, quality, popularity and supply all factor into a satisfying Pinot experience
There are three main components all consumers need to consider. The first is popularity — supply and demand at work. The second is an offshoot of popularity — the vintner’s business plan. More than a few vintners have followed the romance of the grape into a series of costs that were too high to allow for reasonable pricing. The third is quality. (To these you need to add the base cost caused by outrageous taxation and confused policy whi -
Portland pair maintains the tradition of the comic duo
Abbott and Costello, Laurel and Hardy . . . Arnista and Trillo?
Make way for a funny new twosome. Portland-based Anthony Arnista and Jacob Trillo met in grad school and created the company White Collar Crimes to explore comic pairings and Vaudeville.
Their latest creation from the Portland duo is Staycation, described as “Stranger Things meets the two burglars from Home Alone.”
The story is told through physical buffoonery, shadow puppetry, eccentric dance and song.

Peach bruschetta takes a summer walk on the savoury side
It’s that most wonderful time of the year. No, I’m not talking about back-to-school flyers hitting your mailbox. All of the glorious fruit popping up at farmers markets has me jumping for joy.
It’s stone fruit madness, with apricots, plums, peaches, nectarines and cherries. Ever had a pluot? It’s a hybrid of a plum and apricot and it’s glorious. My refrigerator’s real estate is dominated by baskets of just-picked raspberries, for sprinkling on the morning&rsqu -
New Faces New Places for Aug. 5
Fatburger was not a franchise opportunity that Blake Le Bras looked seriously at first.
After searching for the right business to sink his teeth into, he scoured potential investments in this province and in Alberta.
Finally, he took a deeper look into the menu items Fatburger offers and soon realized Fatburger was something he could believe in and be passionate about.
“Honestly, with a sizeable menu with many healthy options, it’s one of the things that drew me to Fatburger,&r -
Jim Hole: Hits and myths about cherries
Cherries
Growing cherries on the Canadian prairies might sound somewhat oxymoronic because cherry trees are thought to be non-hardy here – thanks to our chilly winters. But in August, one doesn’t have to travel afar to find bright-red clusters of cherry fruit dripping from homegrown trees and shrubs.
So what’s the secret to growing cherries successfully on our prairies? It starts with choosing the right varieties.
A Bit of Science
Essentially, there are two broad categor -
Cuthand: Racist ideas should be left in the past
It seems that every few months we have another racial incident in this province. A young Indigenous man is shot and killed at a farm south of the Battlefords, a respected member of the First Nations community is accosted and accused of stealing at a Canadian Tire store, and so on. I suspect more incidents will occur in the future. Race relations in Saskatchewan are getting worse and we are looking more and more like Mississippi North.
This didn’t happen in a vacuum. To understand the prese -

Fringe stars come out to shine
Get Me The F- Out of Edmonton
Kinsmen/Cosmo Hall
4 stars/5
Back when the Fringe was the newest, coolest thing on the block, there was this insanely good theatrical troupe out of Edmonton called Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie.
They did sketch comedy and songs and were never too shy for shameless self-promotion (performing a song in the bathroom of the Broadway Theatre was all in a day’s work). And they packed ’em in.
Several decades later, who should wash up on the shores of the Fringe -
