Hole-in-one times two: Saskatoon golf buddies hit back-to-back aces
The odds of any golfer hitting a hole-in-one are slim. The odds of two golfers from the same group hitting a hole-in-one on the same hole one after the other are astronomical.
Gerry Hanke and Bruce Baier beat those odds Friday.
Hanke and Baier were originally going to golf at the Willows, but ended up at the Moonlake Golf and Country Club instead. On the eighth hole of the Heather course at Moonlake — listed on the scorecard as 131 yards but playing more like 128 yards on Friday because of -

UFC 213: Shevchenko's world travels lead to title shot vs. Nunes
LAS VEGAS — Valentina Shevchenko has no idea how many countries she has visited or how many millions of miles she has covered in her lifelong pursuit of insight, enlightenment and new martial arts skills.
Fighting is her profession, but the quest for knowledge is another great passion for a Kyrgyzstan native from a fighting family. She now calls Peru home, but trains for her fights largely in Thailand and the U.S.
Shevchenko might spend her life roaming the globe, but her travels culminate -

UFC 213: With Rousey’s support, Browne determined to end losing streak
LOS ANGELES — While Travis Browne’s relationship with Ronda Rousey blossomed, his mixed martial arts career wilted.
Once considered a surefire heavyweight title contender, Browne has lost three straight fights. After losing just once in his first 18 professional bouts, he has lost five of his last seven in a skid that began shortly before his high-profile relationship with Rousey, the most famous woman in their sport.
Yet Browne is eager to correct anybody who might think his slump i -
Nunes meets Shevchenko, Romero takes on Whittaker at UFC 213
LAS VEGAS — The UFC women’s bantamweight title hasn’t stayed anywhere for long ever since long-reigning champion Ronda Rousey lost it.

Nunes makes her second title defence Saturday against Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 213. The bout is the main event of International Fight Week, the UFC’s annual mixed mar -

Public Advisory Regarding Phone Scam
The Saskatoon Police have received a report of a new phone scam targeting Saskatoon residents. In this particular scam the caller claims that the person being contacted has won a vehicle in a local fundraising lottery. They will ask, quite convincingly, that a fee be paid to them for delivery of the vehicle when in fact no vehicle has even been won. If you have been a victim of this type of fraud or any other type of fraud, please file a report online: www.saskatoonpol -
Saskatoon SPCA at capacity for cats, surrenders on hold
The Saskatoon SPCA has so many cats looking for homes – there’s no more room at the shelter.
The SPCA announced Friday it’s at capacity for cats and has put a temporary hold on accepting felines surrendered by owners.

Owners who need to surrender their cats can be placed on a wait -

City of Saskatoon billboards on racism work
The City of Saskatoon was right to put together the “I am the Bridge” campaign, targeting racism and seeking to start a discussion about the issue.
It was not, however, reasonable to think the reaction from the public would not be divisive.

Letter of the Day: Roll out green bins program properly
Roll out green bins program properly
If Saskatoon is serious about implementing more widespread use of green bins, then I suggest the following ideas.
In neighbourhoods where blue recycling and dark garbage bins are currently in the alleys, continue that method of collection for the green bins. Currently that is not the practice.
Support the financial cost of the green bins through general civic taxation but make the use of the green bins voluntary for those that would use them properly. The cur -
