An inmate serving a life sentence for a high-profile Manitoba murder has died while in custody at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary in Prince Albert.
Daniel James Tokarchuk, 44, was more than 12 years into a life sentence for second-degree murder when he died Wednesday morning, according to Correctional Service Canada. Emergency services were called and Tokarchuk was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:24 a.m.

Drivers are still getting caught speeding through construction zones around two major road work projects near Saskatoon.

Sage Hill offers free writing workshops for teens 14-18
Sage Hill Writing, a not-for-profit organization that offers creative writing development programs, is offering free writing workshops to give creative teens ages 14 to 18 the opportunity to develop their creative writing skills with a professional writer. A rainbow-coloured crosswalk installed at 23rd Street and 4th Avenue was defaced earlier this week, prompting a call for help cleaning it up.

More young people suffering strokes, according to a Heart and Stroke Foundation report
Amanda Horner was a fit 30-year-old, settling into her role as a new mother and training for her first triathlon, when she suffered her first stroke.
After four days in hospital and a few weeks of therapy, she was almost back to normal.

Former CFLer Friesen remembers 'survivor' methods used at training camps in the 1980s
Jerry Friesen remembers the good ole days, if you want to call them that.
Friesen survived Canadian Football League training camps in the late 1970s and early 1980s, back when the camp was a grind, both merciless and gruelling.
Training camp tested endurance, as much as anything else, with two practices daily and full-fledged body contact. If there wasn’t hitting, it wasn’t a drill.
“Full gear, pounding away,” reminisces Friesen, 61.
