• Judge worried for Sarnia man’s future as he’s jailed for weapons

    A Sarnia judge told Dreyten Lawrence he’s a young man with a future, but he needs to get some help. “Otherwise, I fear for your future,” Justice Krista Lynn Leszczynski said as she sentenced him to three months in jail. “The behaviour that I’ve heard about today is most troubling and concerning.” Sarnia police issued two news releases about incidents involving Lawrence last year.     A London woman who pleaded guilty last fall to trafficking fentanyl in Sarnia nearly five years ago was scheduled to be sentenced this week.     Another cold weather alert has been issued for the Sarnia area as frigid overnight temperatures are forecast to continue into the weekend. The alert, issued Thursday by Karalyn Dueck, Lambton County’s medical officer of health, will be in effect until Sunday, Lambton Public Health said in a news release.     The Western Sarnia-Lambton Research Park is asking Lambton County for $845,000 to $1.3 million in additional funding in 2026 as it works to rebuild a tenant roster that plunged in the wake of the pandemic.   • Pedestrian struck by vehicle dies: Walpole Island police

    A Walpole Island resident is dead after a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle Tuesday, First Nation police say. Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to the collision on Tecumseh Road about 10 p.m., a Walpole Island police release said. A Walpole resident, 29, was taken to hospital, where they were pronounced dead, police said. Walpole Island police, assisted by an OPP traffic incident team, are investigating.
