This year’s spring flood claimed the life of a motorist Saturday as the Ottawa River continued its rise toward an expected peak later this week.
A 72-year-old woman, Louise Séguin Lortie, of Pontiac, was killed early Saturday morning when her car plunged off a road that had been washed away by a flooded creek. Her car slammed into a creek bed just west of Quyon, Que.

This year’s spring flood turned deadly Saturday when a motorist in Quyon, Quebec plunged into a creek bed after heavy runoff washed away the road.
The woman, Louise Séguin Lortie, 72, was taken to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

After waiting almost 40 years, I finally did it: I purchased legal weed. To date, for different reasons, I’ve yet to make a legal (or illegal) online purchase. But on April 1, legal, bricks-and-mortar weed retail came to Ontario and on April 6 I ventured out to one of Ottawa’s first three shops.

Congratulations to the city’s environment committee for taking the bold step to fight climate change by recommending that Ottawa Council declare a climate emergency. Now it is up to council to do the right thing: Declare climate change a threat and combatting it a priority. No more excuses for the city not to act.

The Ottawa Police Service has asked for public assistance in identifying a man involved in a bank robbery on Wellington Street West earlier this month.A man walked up to the bank counter, told the teller he had a gun and demanded money at about 5:40 p.m. on April 4, police said Friday. A man was arrested early Friday after police received reports of two people with a “large gun” near the ByWard Market.
