Equifax forced to report to the Privacy Commissioner of Canada for six years as a result of 2017 data breach
The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada will monitor American credit agency Equifax Inc. for the next six years after an investigation into a massive data breach of personal information at the firm in 2017.

Two suspects sought in Kanata robbery, beating
Ottawa police are looking to identify two suspects after a man was beaten by two other men responding to his ad to sell his phone.
The incident occurred in Kanata Jan. 19 at about 6:45 p.m.
The suspects arrived at the victim’s home around Marconi Avenue and Maxwell Bridge Road and proceeded to beat him, then grabbed the phone.
Patrol officers arriving on the scene found the victim had received serious injuries.

Ottawa police arrested a 20-year-old man early Tuesday in the Carlington area in connection with a string of robberies along Baseline Road in February.
Police said Muse Abdirahaman was arrested at a residence in the 1000 block of Silver Street.
Warrants had been issued for his arrest in connection with three robberies — including a banking institution, a convenience store and a fast food restaurant — in which a suspect passed a note and demanded money.

Gatineau driver hit with $870 fine, 14 demerits for stunt driving
A 30-year-old Gatineau man has been fined $870 and had 14 demerit points applied to his driving licence after he was clocked doing 114 km/h in a 40 km/h zone on the weekend.
Police say a radar officer heard the speeding car approaching on St-René Boulevard East Saturday night and measured the speed at almost three times the limit before alerting a colleague further down the road who arrested the driver.
