Enbridge Gas seeks as much as 11 per cent price increase in response to federal carbon tax
Enbridge Gas has applied for a rate increase that could drive up the average customer’s bill by as much as $94 a year — and the company is blaming the looming carbon tax.
The increase marks about an 11-per-cent jump. That’s based on what the company said in September was a typical residential customer’s annual bill: $873.
Enbridge, which recently merged with Union Gas, supplies 99.8 per cent of all natural gas customers in the province of Ontario.

Denley: Maverick MPP Randy Hillier proved a poor fit for party politics
Some people just aren’t cut out for party politics. After a dozen years in office, Randy Hillier should have realized he was one of them.
The Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston MPP, recently ejected from the PC caucus, was an outspoken maverick before he got into politics and he has been an outspoken maverick ever since he was elected. Personally, I am in favour of outspoken mavericks, but if they are to succeed as politicians, they need to understand the nature of the game.

City proposes to try commuter park-and-bike at Andrew Haydon Park
The City of Ottawa could allow a handful of commuters to park their vehicles and bike from Andrew Haydon Park for at least three years, but that would be the extent of any municipal park-and-cycle initiatives for now.
Under the zoning rules, it’s illegal for motorists to use City of Ottawa parking lots as park-and-cycle lots. The lots are meant for the people using the amenity, like a park.
That has put a stick in the spokes of motorists/cyclists who want to split their trip between drivin -

Lage Lund CD reviewed
Terrible Animals (Criss Cross Jazz)Lage Lund
The cover for Terrible Animals, the latest album from New York-based guitarist Lage Lund, has a decidedly retro feel to it.
Jazz aficionados will recognize the cover’s red border and casual sketch of Lund as a nod to the look of selected Criss Cross Jazz album covers from the early 1980s, i.e., a time when Lund, who is 40 now, was still a pre-schooler in Norway, years away from picking up his first guitar.
That said, the album’s rend -
