Lansdowne Park deal under 'strategic review' with lacklustre financial returns
More money needs to come into Lansdowne Park to have the redevelopment deal pay off for city hall and its business partner.
The latest annual report on the Lansdowne partnership between the City of Ottawa and the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group says the city won’t receive $62 million it expected to collect off its $24-million deemed equity contribution to the 30-year Lansdowne deal.

Ottawa hits a population of one million: Big ideas for a big city
Sometime before Canada Day, Ottawa’s population will hit one million.
That’s the best estimate of city planners, who are pumped by the prospect and preparing for the changes it will bring.
“After years of thinking about it, we are actually going to hit it this year,” says Stephen Willis, the city’s general manager of planning, infrastructure and economic development.
“It puts us in a different league of North American cities.”

Hugh Segal has always been a voice of reason and common sense, and his article contains pure words of wisdom. The problem is: Who will be guided by them?

No need to lengthen Type 26 warship to meet Canada’s needs, says DND
Industry representatives have been talking about the possibility that the Type 26 design will need to be altered significantly to meet Canadian requirements. There have been suggestions that the length of the ship will have to be increased by 10 metres to better accommodate a Canadian crew size. Questions about such a possibility were even raised by MPs at a Commons defence committee meeting last month.
But the Department of National Defence says there’s nothing to such claims. DND spokesw -
The zoo Ottawa never had
London had one, as did such capital cities as Tokyo, New Delhi, Moscow and Washington. Why not Ottawa?
That was the prevailing attitude throughout much of the latter half of the 20th century: How could we pretend to be a major capital if we didn’t have the things — in this case a zoo — that all the cool cities had?
Jacques Gréber’s city-defining report of 1950 called for the construction of a Zoological Garden, and a decade later the Ottawa Board of Trade, the Nati -
