Call of the … tame? Loons are becoming less wild, broad survey suggests
Loons are becoming tamer overall, according to a survey of loons on 200 Wisconsin lakes that began a quarter of a century ago.

Piper, from Chapman University in California, has been studying the behaviour of loons of northern Wisconsin since 1993.
While he and his students are out banding and observing loons, they have measured and recorded how -

That said, opposition parties who want to form government by claiming revulsion at alleged government improprieties are often disappointed at election -

House Works: Home buying experience needs more transparency
I don’t suppose many homeowners make it to 56 years old without ever having bought a house, but that’s me. Since I still live in the house I built when I was in my 20s, I’ve never had to sift through dozens of prospective property listings, negotiating for price, dealing with agents and lawyers.
All this changed last month when my wife and I got involved helping our daughter, Katherine, and son-in-law, Paul, find their first home.
As an outsider experiencing the reality of buyi -

Traffic: After winter, comes construction season
Winter is officially over — cue the jackhammers.
But, first, a few crashes, in a quietish early commute.
Northbound Woodroffe Avenue was reduced to one lane between Vaan Drive and Hunt Club Road near the Nepean Sportsplex after a two-vehicle collision at 8:05 a.m. A school bus that was behind one of the vehicles wasn’t involved in the crash, police said. It was cleared about an hour later.
City police warned just before 7:30 a.m. that motorists should expect delays for a few ho -

Happy first day of spring.
Didn’t you notice?

Cohen: When disaster strikes a world away but hits close to home
Before the religious massacre in New Zealand – a millennium ago in the revolutions of the news cycle – there was the airplane crash in Ethiopia. Before the evil of mass murder in a crowded mosque, there was the whim of fate on a barren plain.
When I heard of the crash of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302, I paused, winced and shrugged. It’s Ethiopia, I thought, far from home. It’s a flight from Addis Ababa to Nairobi, I thought, not London to Toronto. It was an accident, I th -

A positive experience at Rideau Regional
Re: Gone, not forgotten, March 16.
I read Catherine McKercher’s article with much empathy; my family and I have walked that same road. However, your heading “Failure and inhumanity at residential institutions” tends to equate the Smiths Falls establishment with those others of infamous repute, where Indigenous children were taken from their families for the specific purpose of forcibly changing their identity and their culture, a misdire
