The birds and the bees: Gatineau opens door to urban farmers
After two phases of a pilot project went well, Gatineau is opening the henhouse door to urban farmers. Also the beehive door.
People with a property of at least 350 square metres can build a shed for up to five hens that lay eggs, or keep a beehive.
Formal approval is expected at a council meeting next Tuesday. Assuming that goes through, people will have to apply online to Gatineau anytime on or after March 20, and there are some rules:

Last month I had an article about taxpayers spending $161,000 for photographers to take images of Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan on his various trips. The Liberal government says these photographs are proof that Canada is re-engaging on the world stage.
The amount covers 26 trips since late 2015 to locations such as India, Trenton, Yellowknife, Brussels, Ukraine, Latvia, Iraq and Africa.
Sajjan’s spokeswoman, Renée Filiatrault, said in an email that such photographers are used by th -

'Don't take your organs to Heaven': Orléan's man turns truck into a billboard for organ donors
Three times a week, 52 weeks a year, Steve Dunn makes the trek from his Orléans home and settles into a comfy chair in the basement of the Riverside Hospital. He’ll be there for the next 4 1/2 hours as his blood pumps through a life-saving kidney dialysis machine.
It’s a routine he’s been doing for five years.
“It’s like a part-time job, really,” said Dunn, 47.
Frustrated by his half-decade wait for a kidney donor, Dunn has turned the back of his GMC pi -

Today's letters: Why did councillors approve LRT Stage 2?
LRT doubters should have voted No
Re: Council OKs $4.6B Stage 2 transit contracts, March 7.
I would like to know why some city councillors voted yes when they had doubts about the LRT Phase 2 project. Coun. Carol Anne Meehan asked, “Are we supposed to rubber stamp this project?” If that was how she felt, she should have voted No. I agree with Coun. Diane Deans’s position of voting No because she said she did not get enough information on the project.
It is time council and the -
