Mayor Jim Watson says it’s “absolutely asinine” to consider not proceeding with Stage 2 LRT, while one of his council foes is questioning if he would fulfil his re-election promise at any cost.
Watson told reporters in Toronto on Tuesday that the public is “very much on board” with the Stage 2 program, which now has a price tag of $4.6 billion, up from the $3.4 billion council had been told it would cost to extend tracks to Moodie Drive, Algonquin College, Trim Road

No more extensions in LeBreton mediation, Heritage Minister says
It seemed like loads of time. In mid-January the National Capital Commission granted the feuding Rendezvous LeBreton partners an extension until Feb. 28 to reach a deal on the 20-year, $4 billion project to redevelop LeBreton Flats.
Turns out, there was too much time. It’s rare that a mediation effort — such as the one led here by former Ontario chief justice Warren Winkler — lasts much longer than a day or two. Often it takes the threat of a real deadline to force changes in p -

Adam: Doug Ford, Lisa MacLeod must start over on Ontario autism plan
The more we learn about the Ontario government’s new autism program, the worse it gets. The latest reports, that the government misled parents about the waiting list, leaves it with no credibility on the issue any more. Premier Doug Ford now has no choice but to reverse course.
However laudable the goal of helping the 23,000 autistic children on the waiting list get the treatment they need, it is clear the policy has been mishandled. And it’s not just about Children, Community and So -

Traffic: A rare trouble-free morning
What a difference a day makes.
After Monday’s snowy windy madness, Tuesday morning roads were clear and dry —although it’s bitterly cold and sidewalks remain downright treacherous — with the city’s traffic centre all quiet as the commute got underway.
Well, there was one noteworthy glitch: Just before 8:30 a.m., a crash on the westbound Queensway at Bronson Avenue blocked the right lane and shoulder.
Double-check your bus connections, however: OC Transpo had more th -

Sunny skies but risk of frostbite with wind chill of -29 tonight
The weather’s looking a little humdrum for Tuesday: No warnings, alerts, cautions, or heads ups in the forecast.
But it will be a chillier than seasonal day, especially if you can’t get out of the wind.
Tuesday’s high is forecast to be about -12 C, but the wind could make it feel like -28 early on, and -19 by the afternoon, prompting a risk of frostbite.
Clouds are expected to roll in Tuesday night, with a deep low of -24 C, and overnight wind chills of about -29.

Re: Legal pot shop proposed for Wellington Street West, Feb. 11
The flawed Ontario implementation of cannabis store rollout is about to hit us all in Ottawa. The first location on Wellington Street promises to deal out problems for customers and residents alike. ANALYSIS: City of Ottawa leaving it entirely up to other governments to fund future LRT projects
The city is entirely banking on the other two levels of government to fulfill its long-term dream to extend LRT to Kanata and Barrhaven.
An updated long-range financial plan for the City of Ottawa’s transit program assumes that the federal and provincial governments will pay 100 per cent of future LRT projects. The plan, released last Friday along with the Stage 2 contract recommendations, accounts for transit spending through 2048, which means Kanata and Barrhaven transit customers hungry -

'Rot in hell': Andy Nevin's family won't forgive 'heartless monster' who covered tracks in deadly hit-and-run
It was the cops, not his conscience, that caught up with Deinsberg St-Hilaire.
Hilaire, 42, had no intention of turning himself in for the June 28, 2015 hit-and-run that killed Andy Nevin, who was riding a bike along Leitrim Road.
In fact, while Nevin’s family — including his two sons — was making funeral plans, St-Hilaire was covering his tracks in a most calculated way. He tarped the truck that was all over the news, had it repaired and took it to the car wash. St-Hilaire als -
