City imposes parking ban as February starts the way January ended
Saturday’s weather may have been an appropriate kickoff for Winterlude, but capital residents can only be thankful it wasn’t a work day.
February kicked off the way January ended, with persistent snow through the morning and into the afternoon causing dozens of traffic crashes and slow going through the city.
About 10 cm had fallen at the Ottawa airport by about 1 p.m., and “moderate” snowfall was expected to contune through the afternoon.

Don't put your dead boas in the recycling bin, company advises
Workers on the sorting line at the Tricentris recycling depot in Gatineau have seen some pretty odd stuff.
But, the three-metre snake on the sorting conveyor belt was a first.
The boa (or python) with a fist-sized head had been dead for a while before it turned up in the sorting area on Friday, the Lachute-based company said on its Facebook page.
They’ve had (dead) animals before, the company said, including deer carcasses in hunting season.
Animal remains are not recyclable, they note.

Cloudy and snowy with a chance of early Spring
The good news for believers is that it is not likely that any groundhog anywhere around here is going to see a shadow for a week or so.
Wiarton Willie looks skyward in order to give us his prognostication. When Willie does not see his shadow, according to groundhog folklore, it means we can expect an early spring.
Today, periods of snow should end near noon with a total accumulation of around five cm expected, then a continued 30 per cent chance of flurries.

Editorial: Healthy debate would be nice, Ontario
Most Ontarians likely don’t know what a “LHIN” is. So if the government decides to dissolve these regional health care entities – as it apparently wishes to – should you care? Would you get better access to higher-quality services? Or would things be worse?
